Expedition recap: episode 2
The official kick-off of the new season of Expeditie Robinson is behind us and we can finally enjoy the first real episode. I am trying to memorize the names of all the participants (because sorry, I really didn't know them all beforehand), and I believe I am on the right track. It helps that most of the new faces are quite present in the episode. Except for Marijn, that is. One of my predictions from last week already comes true: after yet another silly joke, Billy is temporarily silenced. They don't want any jokes for now.
The daily bickering at the two camps is actually my favorite part of Expeditie Robinson. We see how chefs Ellemieke and Ramon try to figure out who exactly is the chef and who is the sous-chef. After what felt like too short a time enjoying all that nonsense on the island, we are jolted awake again by the arrival of the presenters. Nicolette and Art arrive separately on the islands with the message that someone from the other camp needs to be sent away. Not very surprising that both choose to send the strongest men to Titan Island: that would be Thomas and Kiran.
As soon as I see Thomas and Kiran together on that island, ‘being shipwrecked on a deserted island’ immediately goes on my bucket list. Because hello, if these two are waiting for me there, it's more of a dream than a disaster! What is a disaster? Sergio's panic attacks. Because while Thomas and Kiran are figuring out what their cohabitation will look like, Camp North and Camp South are once again subjected to a hellish immunity challenge. It has something to do with a very large beam that needs to be hung up, I didn't need much more information than that. As soon as Sergio cooperates a bit with the challenge, he has a panic attack. And that's really sad, of course, but also quite inconvenient by now. When his team wins the challenge, he is treated as the hero of the day and gets to pick up the necklace. Seems pretty frustrating to me if you are one of the team members who fought hard to win the challenge without too much complaining, but maybe that's just me.
At the island council, Camp South must be the first to vote one of their fellow islanders off. Nicolette asks if anyone with the immunity coin would like to use it, to which Kimmylien cheerfully makes the joke ‘yes, me!’ Everyone looks a bit shocked around them. But she doesn't have an immunity coin. And then it immediately becomes clear why the rest of the islanders looked so uncomfortable. Kimmylien is voted off by everyone on the island. What the rest of the group doesn't know is that Kimmylien is actually the big winner: she gets to travel to Titan Island, where she is lovingly welcomed by Thomas and Kiran.
