Expedition recap: or is it still ‘The Bachelorette’?
Episode 3

What is better than lying on your couch on a Sunday evening, surrounded by food, watching a group of people searching for and fighting over food on a deserted island? I prefer to order a pokebowl to make it even a bit meaner. Not that the participants of Expedition Robinson are bothered by that, but it gives me the feeling that I am a little part of it, without having to make the same effort. Luckily, this episode starts right away with cooking and fishing. Although the latter doesn't really seem to work out. Camp North should be incredibly happy with chef Ramon, because without him they would probably have to make do with pancakes and coconut every day.
Less idyllic is the atmosphere on Titan Island. Kimmy is having such a hard time with allergic reactions to her motherland that she has to decide to leave and leave the men behind. When Kimmy left, I briefly wondered if I was watching an episode of ‘The Bachelorette’. The men were waving so sadly as she departed in her little boat to the mainland, it seemed like things would not turn out well for them. Of course, it is soon time for challenges again, because how else do we get rid of people? There needs to be new arrivals on Titan Island, and that is arranged by reigniting the rivalry between Camp North and Camp South. In preparation, Sergio tried to create some goodwill at Camp North. He proudly announced that he was fit for 95%, and his mindset was completely game ready. But unfortunately, that didn't matter to his teammates anymore, because when they have to choose who gets to participate in the challenge, he is left behind. They probably don't fully trust him anymore, given that he has panicked completely in every challenge so far.
After a loud battle cry from Camp North, Camp South is so annoyed that they almost manage to win. But it's just not enough, so they are banished back to the island council. Justine seems to have no need for the cheerful atmosphere after her camp's victory, so she decides to confront her fellow residents: she was chosen last and wants clarity about that now. And this, while there is more reason for concern on the other island. They have to vote someone out, and so I finally get what I am actually watching for. The moment that my sisters and I have reenacted so many times on vacation: squatting in the sea, with the splashing water in the background, whispering to decide who will be voted out that evening. Rikkie still believes she is part of this alliance, but nothing could be further from the truth and she is unanimously voted out at the island council. She admits that she actually quite wants to go home, that she is secretly relieved and now truly appreciates what she has at home. But unfortunately for her: she has to go to Titan Island. Good news for the men there, because they finally get a woman to impress again.
The only thing that really bothers me is that we are almost constantly watching challenges, because there is not only an immunity challenge that consists of at least 3 different parts every week, but also the Titan challenge that lasts infinitely long with their balls that need to disappear into holes. I actually watch Expedition Robinson mainly because I want to see how they survive on the island. The scheming of the different alliances, the search for food, dragging fishing nets through the sea, and flour being thrown into the sea. I really hope we will see this a bit more in the coming weeks. And also that Camp South wins immunity next time, because I am curious who they have secretly wanted to vote out from Camp North all this time.
