Expedition debrief: Timor turns out to be a tyrant
Episode 7

‘Well isn’t it strange, without Sergio,’ says Timor while he and Joy are fishing. It sounds a bit off-key. Joy feels a bit nauseous about how things went at the island council. ‘Yaaa, I feel that too indeed,’ Timor quickly recovers. Despite the arrival of Thomas, Timor has managed to seize power on the island again. He rules from a negative vibe. When one crab is caught with the help of Thomas’ trap, the only thing he can say is: ‘can you divide this by seven?’ Meanwhile, his ex-island mate Sergio is on his way to Revenge Island. He is really bummed out. And unfortunately for Hamza and Rikkie who are eagerly waiting for him: Sergio has brought Timor’s negative vibe with him. While Rikkie and Hamza are looking for food, Sergio sulkily sits on a rock. He is extremely hurt because he was voted out. And on top of that, he is also suffering from his ear. But he really didn’t see that vote-out coming, despite the fact that he has been almost constantly gloomy until now, had a panic attack, couldn’t participate in challenges, and hasn’t been feeling well. He wasn’t exactly the strongest player, to say the least. In the end, he chooses to go home anyway. He is afraid that his ear infection will cause him to go deaf, and that cannot happen with his work in music.
Camp Kiran vs Camp Timor: two different worlds
At Camp South, they are very satisfied doing groceries in the woods. Kiran’s group is incredibly positive, and they are happily nibbling on some pieces of coconut while discussing their strategy for the upcoming challenge. The residents of ‘Camp Kiran’ compare his and Timor’s leadership styles and conclude that they carry totally different energies. The new team members who have been condemned to Timor’s camp must step over a huge threshold when they are called into the circle for the ‘ahoe ahoe’-yell that they have hated so much all this time. Unfortunately, Camp South loses the challenge, so someone from the happy team will have to be voted out. Or…. maybe not? Because Kiran sets the hourglass, so his team still takes the win. That’s a slap in the face for Thomas, who was very happy with the first win for his camp. Camp North is getting weaker and weaker: everyone has band-aids, Sergio had an ear infection, and now it turns out that Julie has suffered a severe allergic reaction causing her to stay out of the water and away from sand with her feet. Good luck with that, on a deserted island.
Thomas is having a birthday, so there is cake
Finally, my needs are being met, and in the best possible way: I get to see footage of the daily happenings on the island! Quite an exceptional situation, because Thomas is having a birthday. Ramon and Ymre have both crafted a gift for Thomas. He receives a handmade bracelet and a handmade necklace. At the island council, he also hits the jackpot: he gets a cupcake with Winnie the Pooh on it. We don’t see him eat that, by the way. Meanwhile, Billy, Farja, and Vincent are joking around while they float in the sea. Tyrant Timor is a great source of inspiration for them: ‘support!’, ‘Why are you sitting on that rock?!’, ‘Why are you swimming in the sea, that’s not allowed!’. What a relief it must be to be free from that. For Julie, it’s actually good news that she is voted out at the island council. She also declines the offer to go to Revenge Island, and after Rikkie loses the challenge there, Hamza is the only resident of the island. Expedition Robinson seems to be primarily a social experiment in leadership this week. So far, the challenges are evenly matched, but in the long run, I bet Kiran’s camp will hold up better.
