Expedition aftertalk: Camp Ego and Camp Goodvibes
Episode 6

For Kiran and Thomas, the moment they have been waiting for has finally arrived. They are allowed to return to Camp North and Camp South. The Titans are super happy with this news, maybe a little extra because Hamza has arrived on Titan Island today and he is a bit too busy for the vibe they want to feel there. The first tropical storm has swept over the islands and everyone has had enough for a moment. At Camp South, Vincent is quite grumpy, but according to Farja, he is still too positive, and he doesn't like that at all. On Titan Island, it is mainly Justine who is really struggling. With puffy eyes from lack of sleep, she constantly talks about how her ‘sleeping area’ turned into a river, causing her to not get a wink of sleep. Somehow, I associate her with a little hamster; maybe it's the combination of the puffy eyes and the word ‘sleeping area’. It just feels like she is a rodent that prefers to disappear in its plastic house among the sawdust during the day.
Thomas and Kiran are allowed to mix the teams before they leave for their new islands. Thomas chooses Timor first; his strategy is to pick the strongest players, while Kiran clearly goes for the good vibes he wants to feel on his island. He chooses Marijn. He also wants Vincent for the atmosphere, but since he gets Farja for free from Thomas, it will be exciting to see how good that atmosphere will really be. But the reason I like Kiran so much is his positive attitude: he is just going to motivate Farja. Luckily, he can also give Thomas a disadvantage as a gift, so he gives him Sergio as payback. How petty that actually is. When the men return, everyone is intensely happy to see them. Kiran gets ’team blue’, Thomas is the captain of ’team red’, and so they will compete for who gets the best island. During the challenge, everyone wants to show their best side, except for Sergio of course, because he decides that it's every man for himself and grabs a bag for himself. About those bags, advantages are distributed, but by coincidence, Sergio just picks the one that is completely empty. Karma.
I am worried about Justine Marcella
You can see it coming: Sergio is in the losing team and he gets voted out. He himself is completely stunned and did not see this coming, which is quite laughable if you would summarize his Robinson career so far: fainting, demotivated, then extreme highs, but also tired and grumpy, and then this selfish action. Meanwhile, Titan Island has been renamed to Revenge Island. Maybe it is also the intention that they take revenge on each other, because Justine inexplicably falls into the mud. But she is also just really done. I am a bit worried about Justine. It is therefore not entirely unexpected that she gives up and takes the first flight home. Kiran is doing fantastic since his departure from Titan Island. His team is going wild, the atmosphere is good, and they also have the hourglass which allows them to claim the win even if they lose a challenge.
For someone like me, who has an extreme fondness for fun nail polishes, it is quite surprising that Marijn's nails are only now catching my attention. She has bright blue nail polish, which perfectly matches the blue bandanas they wear at Camp South. I love that she thought to get her nails done before leaving. At Camp North, they are relieved that Thomas brought a crab trap. Maybe they now have a chance at food. I have a feeling that Kiran's team will prove to be much stronger in the long run than Thomas's ‘strong men’ team. For Timor, it will be difficult to accept that there is a new leader in the camp. Plus, all those egos together will not make it any more pleasant in the end. And I’m here for it.
