7 festivals you don't want to miss this festival summer

The festival season is coming up again. There's a good chance you've already heard around you that tickets have been bought for Audio Obscura, Defqon, or Mysteryland. We're talking about a few of the larger festivals in the Netherlands. But for those looking for something a bit different, there are plenty of exciting parties planned this festival summer. These are festivals with various music styles, free entry, or even festivals for the whole family. In short, plan a weekend away around these dates and festival locations, and you'll have a lovely mini-holiday in your own country.
MadNes
This small-scale festival takes place on Ameland. The vibe here is very relaxed; the festival is accessible for all ages and combines music and culture with surfing and skating. The festival lasts three days, but it's also a nice plan to schedule a few days around Ameland.
90’s on the Beach
As the name suggests: at this festival, you take a trip down memory lane with 90’s hits, where everyone immediately feels nostalgic while standing with their feet in the sand. I bet ‘Sex on the Beach’ by T-Spoon will be played a few times. This festival can be found on July 12 at the Cattenbroekerplas in Woerden.
La Musica Festival
For the true Latin lovers: on May 18, La Musica Festival takes place in Scheveningen. The Latin and urban music they play is a nice change from the standard festival offerings, but what I find most striking about this festival is that women can buy two tickets at a discount. Probably to maintain the man/woman balance.
Pearls of the City
This is a party where you can really take all your friends with you. The line-up again consists of (many!) different artists with various music styles this year. From house to pop, urban, hip-hop… A lovely finale to the festival season, as this party is only in September and takes place in Amsterdam.
Wantijpop
For this festival, you don't even need to arrange a babysitter. The festival is accessible for people of all ages, and it's also free. You don't need to reserve tickets, but it's advisable to arrive on time. You can find this festival in the Wantijpark in Dordrecht. You might not quickly go to Dordrecht for a weekend away, but now it's extra fun to think outside the box and book a B&B to explore the area from there.
Reinier Zonneveld Festival
Okay, I had no idea we were already this far with AI, but it is really possible: at the Reinier Zonneveld Festival, DJ Reinier Zonneveld (surprisingly) plays a Back to Back set with an AI version of himself. Even if you don't like the acid techno music style, I think this is a special festival to be at. There are also other stages where you can dance.
Summer Park Festival
In Venlo, a sort of mini Into The Great Wide Open takes place. If you haven't managed to get tickets for ITGWO, you can secretly jump for joy: Summer Park Festival is completely free. Here too, the vibe is very relaxed, with well-known artists like Karsu and Claude in previous years, but you can also find a jazz orchestra here. A bit of everything, and in my opinion, a lovely place to totally unwind from all the hustle and bustle.
