Gio's by the River: new Italian hotspot in Amsterdam North

As you might know by now, I love going out to eat. I can genuinely enjoy that so much, and for me, it is the ultimate relaxation moment. Unfortunately, I was sick for almost the entire month of December and started the new year with food poisoning, so I had some catching up to do when I finally felt like myself again.
My first restaurant experience of 2024 had to be something special, one that would make me very happy. Well, I found it and of course, I’ll share it right away: Gio’s by the River in Amsterdam-Noord is such a wonderfully fun place.
It comes from the same group as Lolo, in the center of Amsterdam. Just like Gio’s by the River, the menu there is full of Italian dishes and the interior is just as colorful and stylish. Because the building of Gio’s is quite large, with high ceilings and many windows, it doesn’t get too crowded. A big plus: the acoustics are very pleasant, which I always find important.
But well, ultimately you go there for the food, of course. Okay, and for the cocktail menu, because that is more than fine here, so make sure to start with a cocktail or two before you sit down (a spot at the bar is a good starting point).
In terms of food options, they have all the usual suspects, from pizza to pasta, but also very nice cuts of meat like a dry-aged rib-eye or sea bass fillet. Nice: they have plenty of vegetarian options and also surprising dishes like chanterelles with duck confit.
My recommendation would be to go with a group, because I spontaneously got choice stress, and this way you can share the food together. The freshly baked focaccia is so delicious that you’ll want to lick your fingers, just like the trio of tomato and the pizza with ‘nduja.
Yep, quickly reserve here (because that is necessary — they are almost fully booked every night, I think), because this is truly a delightful addition to Amsterdam-Noord.
