Moodswings are really the fault of men

Many will recognize this: the week before you get your period, you feel down, you see everything through a negative lens and you can be quite unpleasant to the people around you. You think that the negative feeling will never go away, until the moment your menstruation comes around the corner: ‘oh, that’s why I found everything stupid and everyone annoying’. Especially men have little understanding for these phases, because women usually recognize it in each other. But what turns out now? Men are the cause of your bad mood! It’s actually the male hormone in your blood that causes those mood swings. Testosterone is the culprit, and here’s how it works.
In the luteal phase (that is the period between ovulation and menstruation), you see everything through a negative lens. This is because during that phase, the testosterone hormone in your blood increases significantly. It peaks during that week, and the interaction between the ‘male hormone’ testosterone, and the hormones that usually dominate in women: estrogen and progesterone, makes you feel so awful. As soon as you get your period, the testosterone levels take a significant dive, and you’re free from that male nonsense for a while.
The next time the men in your life ask you accusingly why you are being so unpleasant to them again, you can provide evidence that it’s all the men’s fault. Maybe you can even use that when your partner complains about how much you spend on clothes. You do need something to feel good again, and that’s all the men’s own fault.
