Our Netflix tip is Jailbreak: the new true crime docu

How far would you go for love?

By

Oh yes! There’s a new true crime documentary on Netflix. ‘Jailbreak: Love on the Run’ tells the story of prison guard Vicky White who fell in love with inmate Casey White and helped him escape. It sounds like a Hollywood movie, but it’s really true.

To avoid confusion, Vicky and Casey have the same last name, but are not related. Casey was transferred in 2020 to the Lauderdale County Detention Center in Florence, Alabama. He was already serving a 75-year sentence for multiple burglaries and shootings, and was now also suspected of murder. Vicky had worked in the prison for 15 years as an assistant director and was known among her colleagues as a hardworking and reliable person. Vicky was also beloved by the inmates. She looked beyond their actions and treated them as human beings.

Vicky decides to retire in April 2022 and tells her colleagues that she will make a grand exit. And she more than fulfills that promise. On her last day, she was supposed to take Casey to court for a psychological evaluation. But they never arrived there. The two disappear without a trace and a manhunt begins. Because of her job, Vicky knows exactly how the police search for fugitives, which makes the search even more difficult.

For two years, they managed to keep everything hidden and prepare for the escape. During the investigation, detectives discover through camera footage and phone recordings how the relationship between the two developed. And yes, there were also some spicy calls involved. Vicky’s colleagues, friends, and former inmates also share their side of the story. Putting everything on the line for love, Vicky was willing to do it. You start to wonder, how far would I go myself.

‘Jailbreak: Love on the Run’ is now available on Netflix.
