Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: Forget cheese fondue, this year it's pizza fondue.

Cheese fondue, chocolate fondue, Asian broth fondue… Come on, that all screams: ‘YES, YES, COMFORT FOOD’?! Fondue-ing through life, we can totally relate to that, especially if we also add pizza fondue to the repertoire.

Ingredients

– 200 grams of ready-made tomato sauce (for example Pizzasauce Aromatica from Mutti)
– 300 grams of grated mozzarella
– about 40 grams of grated Parmesan cheese
– 2 tablespoons of cream cheese (plain)
– Everything you want to dip in like raw vegetables and bread
– Dried Italian herbs to taste

Pizza fondue? Yes, you can take that a little literally. At least, if you're willing to keep your back straight when both Italians and Swiss get mad at you and just keep going with everything and anything dipped in a delicious fondue of cheese and tomato sauce and herbs (actually everything you normally find on a pizza).

All the goodness of pizza in a pot

And it's cozy too, just like it's fun to dip your baguette or raw vegetables into a pot of cheese fondue (and hope to find some sunken radishes in the cheese bath at the end). So if you're in the mood for something other than ‘pure’ cheese, try varying with this fondue to which you add red sauce (or pizza sauce), some Italian spices and herbs like fennel seeds and oregano, and a lot of delicious melting mozzarella. The nice thing is: this can of course also be made with any cheese you like.

Also prepare a platter with things to dip in the fondue. It can be as simple as a baguette and breadsticks or an old school garlic bread, but you can also go all out with a whole bunch of sliced raw vegetables. Fun to do together and super tasty; really worth trying!

Here's how to make pizza fondue

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • Set aside half of the mozzarella for a moment.
  • Grease a round ovenproof dish with butter or olive oil.
  • Put the remaining cheeses in the dish and mix.
  • Pour the tomato sauce and herbs over it and sprinkle the rest of the mozzarella on top.
  • Place in the oven for about half an hour until the cheeses are nicely melted and bubbling.
  • In the meantime, prepare everything you want to dip in the fondue.
  • Serve immediately when the pizza fondue comes out of the oven for optimal cheese strings, but of course be careful not to burn your mouth.
