Tested: do safety razors really give a smoother result?

By

Everyone has their own algorithm on ’the gram’ and at times it is dominated by a certain product, where you then get to see all possible brands and options. Last week I found myself in the algorithm of safety razors, and because I've been really in the mood for experiments with products I have zero experience with lately, I decided it was time to subject myself to the safety razor test.

Pretty exciting to put my standard razor aside and suddenly have to learn a whole new way of shaving. Because it really is quite different. But we'll get to that in a moment. Since it's quite a bit of practice for beginners, I decided to order the safety razor from Bamboozy with butterfly system to try. That system provides the easiest way to place the blade correctly. You use those old-fashioned razor blades that you still see in American movies, and they are just razor-sharp. So it's also important to only hold them by the sides, because you can easily cut yourself. And that's exactly what I found very exciting about it. There is a whole e-book included with explanations, which made me feel like I would scrape my entire skin off as soon as I started shaving. It's definitely important not to press the blade too hard against your skin. Before you immediately want to tackle your armpits or bikini line: first practice on your legs. Shaving a straight section is just easier than uneven parts.

You have to place the blade at exactly a 30-degree angle on the skin to achieve the smoothest shaving result without cutting your skin, and that requires practice. So I started with an angle that was much larger than 30 degrees, out of fear, but quickly realized that you really don't catch the hairs that way. Once I had the right position down (haha), it went much easier than I thought. That was also with the help of a good shaving foam, so the blade glides more smoothly over the skin and your hairs stand up a bit so you can catch them more easily. But once I got going, I really felt that the result was much smoother than with my normal razor (which has three blades in one). With that system, you unconsciously irritate your skin because you go over it multiple times. This causes small bumps and strawberry legs. I honestly saw right after using the safety razor that the strawberry legs were much less present. No red dots, no irritated skin, a really nice and smooth result.

The conclusion is: it's a fantastic system, but I will really keep using it with excitement for the time being. For now, it's only the lower legs just above the knees that the safety razor will be used for. I will always keep waxing for the bikini line (that just gives the longest smooth result), but the safety razor is really a very nice, affordable, and eco-friendly solution for the rest of your body.
