These are the favorite Christmas movies of our editorial team

In the past few weeks, tips about new Christmas movies have been flying around our editorial team. From ‘you really have to watch this’ to ‘just skip this one quickly’. Although opinions can differ quite a bit, we also have a few favorites that we always return to. For those who could use some inspiration, we share the titles that end up on our watchlist every December.
Love Actually (Netflix)
One that really shouldn't be missed is ‘Love Actually’. Secretly, our Isabel has already watched it once before December. All the characters are so different that everyone can find some recognition somewhere. And the realistic connections between the characters make you realize how small the world actually is. The story is not too predictable, which is also nice for a Christmas movie. Although we now know to the minute what is going to happen. The fantastic music and the emotion of Emma Thompson when her character discovers her husband's affair are for us the perfect bow on this gift that we love to unwrap every year.
Carol (Apple TV)
With our Sophie from Italiamo we can not only go for the best tips about Italy, but also for a good movie recommendation. The recommendation: ‘Carol’, a film she has seen multiple times, and that is unique. This might also have to do with the fact that she was at the premiere. According to Sophie, this film actually has everything you want: the actresses, the clothing, the story, and the setting still appeal to her. In short: Therese (Rooney Mara) is a young woman working in a department store in the early ’50s. There she meets the somewhat older Carol (Cate Blanchett) who is stuck in a loveless marriage. The two fall for each other at a time when their love seems impossible. A film full of drama and romance, delightful.
Christmas at Downton Abbey (Netflix)
We make a small detour to a series. Although we can actually call this episode with 1 hour and 33 minutes a movie. A must-see according to May. The Christmas celebration of 1919 is exuberantly celebrated in Downton Abbey, although there are also some tensions. The arrest of servant John Bates does burst the bubble a bit. The wonderful clothing, setting, and English accents that we are used to from the series are made even better by the Christmas vibe. What more could you want?
The Holiday (Netflix)
If there ever comes a Netflix-wrapped, ‘The Holiday’ will definitely be on it. We can also call this a joint (and personal) favorite, even after Jude Law spoiled the magic a bit. The turbulent (love) lives of Amanda (Cameron Diaz) and Iris (Kate Winslet) are already enjoyable. It only gets better when they start swapping and the romances begin. Alright, just one more time then.
Hjem til jul (Netflix)
Our Lysanne is going for a Norwegian Christmas this year, at least when it comes to a series. Hjem til jul (Home for Christmas) should be at the top of your watchlist according to her. In this romcom, we follow Johanne (Ida Elise Broch) who, as an eternal single, convinces her family at the beginning of December that she will finally bring a plus one this year. Small problem: she doesn't have one yet. It becomes a race against the Christmas clock to not show up alone at dinner again. And, good news: in 2025, after four years, a third season will finally come.
