These Hollywood stars have LGBTQI+ parents

Fortunately, we now find it very normal that there are LGBTQI+ couples forming a family, including children and everything that comes with it. Of course, this was not always the case, and there are still cultures where it is treated a bit mysteriously or has to be done so, because it is simply more dangerous to speak the truth than to keep it secret. Especially in countries where a large part of the population is religious, it remains a difficult issue.

It is therefore not very strange that not all Hollywood stars have always been open about the fact that one or more of their parents are, for example, gay or transgender. Of course, it may also simply be that they feel it is nobody's business, which is their right, but the Hollywood stars in this list use their platform to normalize and discuss this topic.

50 Cent
The rap culture has always been known for tough men and sexy women. In almost every music video, the rappers are surrounded by dancers all vying for the attention of the men. Perhaps that is why it is extra difficult for rappers to openly talk about homosexuality. That is why it is particularly special that rapper 50 Cent (whom we all know from songs like ‘In Da Club’) made a song about his mother, who never officially came out. She passed away when he was very young. His grandmother later subtly explained that the kisses his mother gave to her friend were just a bit different from the kisses she gave to others.

Jay-Z
With Jay-Z's enormous reach as a rapper, it was even more important that he also voiced his opinion on LGBTQI+ relationships. He rapped about it too. On his album 4:44 (which is largely an apology letter to Beyoncé after his affair with ‘Becky with the good hair’), you hear in the song ‘Smile’ that he doesn't care who his mother is in love with, but that he just wants to see her happy. At the end of the song, you hear Jay's mother's voice; she explains that she kept her sexuality secret for a long time to protect her family from the comments they would receive. Unfortunately, she felt compelled to turn to drugs because this big secret took quite a toll on her.

Kylie & Kendall
It was quite a thing when Kylie and Kendall Jenner's father came out as transgender. Caitlyn (this is her chosen name) is an Olympic champion in athletics and was seen as a hero by many. Because a large part of Americans are Christian, many people found it very difficult to accept that Caitlyn came out. The family has also had their problems, especially when Caitlyn Jenner published her book containing several accusations against the Kardashian family, but now everyone is back on good terms with each other and Kylie and Kendall can happily ‘glam’ with their father Caitlyn.

Jennifer Grey
After a 24-year marriage, the father of ‘Dirty Dancing’ actress Jennifer Grey decided to come out as gay. He had kept his sexuality secret for a long time and initially only shared it with family and friends, but after a while, he decided to be open about it in the media. Jennifer herself shared that she was especially very happy that her father finally felt comfortable and safe to share this with the world.

Jena Malone
Hunger Games actress Jena Malone grew up with her mother, who at that time had a long relationship with a woman. However, when that relationship eventually ended, her mother converted to Christianity and since then only wants to date men. She seems to be ashamed of her lesbian relationship, as she does not want to talk about it anymore. Jena did grow up with two mothers, but only sees her biological mother as a parent.

Robert De Niro
Robert De Niro did not really know his father in his younger years, but in the diaries of his father that he later read, he could clearly see that his father struggled a lot with his sexuality. He saw it as something bad. They never talked about it before, and now Robert says he regrets that. That is why he encourages his own children not to wait to discuss important things.

Mandy Moore
Everyone knows Mandy Moore from her role in The Princess Diaries. When her parents divorced, her mother came out. She quickly started dating another woman. Mandy's two brothers also came out as gay. She says they are all extremely close and that she feels happy when she sees people in their lives being able to be completely themselves.
