This is the new Dutch thriller series from the creators of ‘Klem’

And why you should see it

the ring

I usually think carefully before I do something. After watching the new Dutch thriller series ‘De ring’, I am quite happy about that. The creators come up with an exciting story full of blackmail, love, and intrigue. We all do something on a whim at some point, but impulsiveness can sometimes be costly.

In ‘De ring’, we follow lawyer Anna (Hannah Hoekstra). During an appointment with one of her clients, she steals a ring from the wealthy businessman Simon (Benja Bruijning), the owner of the company. An impulsive action she immediately regrets. She sends the ring back anonymously to the office and hopes that no one will ever find out it was her. That doesn't go as planned. The theft is filmed, and Simon puts Anna in a tough spot. Either she sleeps with him, or he files a report and puts the footage online. The longer Anna thinks about it, the more she realizes what dramatic consequences the video could have for her career. The question is, of course: will she agree to Simon's condition, or can she find a solution in another way? A series of unexpected events full of secrets, abuse of power, and coercion follows.

The series cleverly plays with time. Occasionally, we see snippets from ‘the future’ where Anna talks to someone. Who that is remains a secret for us viewers. Has she been arrested and is it an interrogation? Or is it someone else, perhaps a psychologist? What is certain is that Anna has been through a lot to get to that point. She has a wild look and significant bags under her eyes. The series provides small pieces of information and is not shy of cliffhangers. Smart, because as a viewer, you want to keep going, to know what will happen.

The first episode was aired last Thursday on NPO 1 and is available to watch online. Now we can look forward to the new episode every week and hope for answers to all your questions. Can't wait and want to binge the series all at once? The entire season is already available on NPO Plus.
