After a trial that lasted three days, we learned today what punishment Ali B will receive for the sexual offenses against him. He is suspected of having abused three women, including a former candidate from The Voice of Holland and singer Ellen ten Damme. One of the women is said to have been assaulted, another victim is said to have been assaulted and raped, and the third victim reported rape. The Public Prosecution Service demanded three years in prison, and it is now known what punishment Ali B has actually received.

The final judgment of the judge is that Ali is not guilty of the assaults on Naomi and Jill Helena, but is guilty of the attempted rape of Ellen ten Damme and the rape of Naomi. Ali receives an unconditional prison sentence of two years for this. The judge emphasized that these are serious criminal offenses: ‘He attached no value to the will of the two women.’ The mental consequences for the victims were also taken into account in the ruling. The judge also indicated that Ali B comes across as a coercive person who does not accept ‘no’.

Ali B was not present at the verdict. The period surrounding this case would have been too stressful for him, so he could not bear to hear the verdict in court. Because Ali B is appealing this verdict, he will not have to go to prison immediately. This will be the case if he is also found guilty in the appeal. Today’s verdict is a significant victory for the women, all three of whom bravely shared their stories while the entire country followed this case every second.
