This Netflix docu makes you wonder: do aliens really exist?

By

Maybe it seems like I've gone crazy, and I will honestly admit that I wouldn't have started this docu if it hadn't been extremely talked about. Aliens are not my favorite subject, I've never seen movies like ‘Star Wars’ and I also like to skip fantasy books. But well, when everyone around you is talking about something... I'm just a curious type. The story begins in 1989 when Linda Napolitano's world was turned upside down: three extraterrestrial beings abducted her from her apartment in the middle of New York City. Despite the fact that she could remember little of it, she had enough clues to believe that it had actually happened. For example, she woke up with a bloody nose, or like another time when she woke up outside, lying in the grass. Vague story, and there are plenty of explanations to think of that this could happen to someone. I think many a student has woken up outside after a heavy night of drinking. But in Linda's case, it was just a bit different.

Linda sought contact with Budd after her various encounters with the aliens. At that time, he was one of the few actively researching aliens, by hypnotizing people who believed they had come into contact with extraterrestrial beings. Hypnosis brought the memories back to the ‘victims’ to try to find a pattern in the different experiences. Budd's wife, Carol, documented this with a camera to later make a documentary about it. But as Budd began to dig deeper into Linda's stories, Carol became more skeptical. The stories are indeed bizarre, and especially the moment Linda starts involving her young son becomes almost a crazy little play. The only thing is: there are 23 witnesses who say they saw Linda when she floated out the window. We're talking about a window on the twelfth floor. If Linda had tried to float without help, we can assume she wouldn't have been able to tell the tale.

Budd appeared on various well-known American talk shows (yes, even on Oprah!) to convince the public that these extraterrestrial beings actually exist. The reason Linda claims she was abducted more than once and ’returned’ to her own environment is that the aliens tag and study us just like we do with wild animals. Carol remained very skeptical, and in the docu we also see her rational thinking and evidence that Linda's story would be a big hoax. But ultimately the question remains: who do you believe? Which evidence is the most convincing? You can now watch ‘The Manhattan Alien Abduction’ on Netflix.
