This is what Singles Day is actually about

For many Brabanders, the 11th of the 11th is a special, traditional holiday; for some, it means Saint Martin and thus a lot of candy, but for a few years now, we have been celebrating something else on this special date: Singles Day. This holiday originally comes from China and was conceived because the focus there is on marriage, which makes singles look a bit sideways. It was time to come up with something for them, and thus Singles Day was born. Why is it celebrated on November 11? The numbers of this day, 11-11, symbolize the lonely hearts coming together to celebrate a day of self-love. Quite contradictory actually, that they are called lonely hearts, because there are quite a few people who are very satisfied being single.
Love does not only exist between two people
But Singles Day is also a day that celebrates the independence of singles. It is the opposite of Valentine's Day, which is all about couples. For singles, it is also nice that this day falls just before the Christmas holidays: the whole month of December seems to revolve around love, and no matter how much we love Love Actually, love can also mean self-love. Fortunately, there are also stores that cater to this, giving us a sort of Black Friday that the whole world can benefit from, instead of just the singles that it supposedly revolves around. Thus, this day of self-love has also become a commercial event, but we can only benefit from that. So, are you single and want to invest in self-love? Then these are the things you want to order today.
1. A super nice journal
Journaling is still super trending on socials, and that's not without reason. Nothing beats some self-reflection to kickstart your personal growth.
2. A card deck with questions – singles edition
There are plenty of card games focused on couples getting to know each other better by asking those questions they wouldn't dare to ask otherwise. But why not ask yourself the questions you don't dare to think about, or don't take the time to come to those thoughts?
3. Affirmation cards
Sometimes it's necessary to remind yourself of your own strength, and it can help to draw a card every day with a quote you can say to yourself. Don't underestimate the power of your thoughts; you notice so much difference when you say kinder things to yourself instead of being critical of your reflection.
4. The Fabulous – app
If you need some help picking up new healthy habits and want to make time every day to work on your personal growth, this reminder is super nice. This beautiful app not only reminds you but also really helps you achieve your personal goals.
5. A fun toy
Self-love also means solo sex, so it's time for a new fun toy to spice up your routine!
