Why your next summer trip should be Malaga
And you should book now
Sometimes you accidentally find yourself at the right place at the right time. I experienced this last summer. The girls' trip to Malaga, which we unsuspectingly booked in February, turned out to be perfectly timed. We were there during Feria de Malaga, the summer festival of the city. Since we later understood that all accommodations around that time always fill up quickly, I'm giving you this tip now. This way, you can be sure that you won't miss this special event.
During Feria de Malaga, it is celebrated that the Catholics regained the city from the Moors in 1487. For one week, the 2nd to 3rd weekend of August, there is dancing, eating, and partying all over the city. The event is opened around midnight with a fireworks and drone show at the harbor.
Day and night party
The rest of the week, the celebrations are divided into two parts, the daytime festivities and those in the evening. During the day, there is something happening everywhere in the old town. Markets, squares with music, a parade with carriages, or performances by Spanish dancers. All the women are dressed in colorful flamenco dresses, and many men wear a suit. Everywhere you can enjoy traditional food and drinks. From 6 PM, everyone moves to a huge festival area just outside the city. The easiest way to get there is by bus, which runs all night bringing visitors to and from the site. A taxi is of course also an option, but they do raise the prices quite a bit during these festivals.
The festival area can also be divided in two. On one side, you find a fair with various attractions and stalls. The other side is filled with hundreds of tents where all kinds of music are played. We ended up in a tent with only Spanish music. I can tell you, it was fantastic. You mingle with the locals and everyone is dancing.

I know, summer has just ended and you might not be thinking about your next vacation yet. Still, I recommend not waiting too long if you want to experience the Feria. The dates for next year are from August 16 to 23. Believe me, it is really a must-see. And the anticipation for that vacation can never start too early.
