This is what you should eat so you won't get bitten by mosquitoes

By

Mosquitoes, perhaps the most annoying insects on earth and loudly present everywhere in Italy. Besides the sound of nails on a chalkboard and the cracking of fingers, the buzzing of mosquitoes also drives us to madness. But besides the buzzing, they can also bite you. Want to keep mosquitoes off your body? Adjust your diet with the ingredients below suggested by our colleagues and buongustai from FavorFlav and hopefully your body will remain mosquito-free this year.

Garlic and onion
Eating garlic and onion is often suggested as an option to keep mosquitoes at bay. They contain the substance allicin and consuming it is said to alter your body’s scent, thus ‘hiding’ you from mosquitoes. It is important to eat the garlic and onion raw; otherwise, the allicin disappears.

Lemongrass
Not in the mood to consume raw onion or garlic? Lemongrass seems to work as well, as it contains citronella oil, known from various candles and mosquito repellents. Eating lemongrass should also be effective. Lemongrass is widely used in Asian cuisine, so just switch it up a bit in Italy.

Chili pepper
For the spice lovers among us: eat as much chili pepper as possible! These peppers contain capsaicin (which causes that burning sensation on your tongue). Insects do not like it and it is therefore already widely used in organic insecticides.

Tomatoes, beans, and lentils
Tomatoes, beans, and lentils are all products that contain a lot of thiamine (vitamin B1). And a diet rich in thiamine can help keep mosquitoes away from you. As with many of these remedies, there is much debate about it. If you still get bitten despite this diet, you can also rub the juice of a tomato on your bump to relieve the itching. Hopefully, this helps.
