A beautiful skin without a filter? This is what Korean Skincare does differently
After the rise of K-pop and the popularity of Korean celebrities, Korean skincare has also become a well-known phenomenon. It makes sense, because who doesn't want a radiant and even skin tone without having to apply a thick layer of foundation? Good news: you can do this too! We’ve outlined all the ins and outs of K-beauty for you.
Why Korean skincare is so different
In Korea, the focus is not on hiding imperfections, but rather on preventing them. Skincare is more important than make-up: a healthy skin is the foundation of everything. The K-philosophy revolves around gentle care, smart ingredients, and consistency. If you want glass skin, you tackle problems at the source.
Combination of traditional and modern ingredients
K-beauty has been around for years, but remains so effective because it combines ancient ingredients with modern technology. Traditional classics like rice extract, ginseng, and snail mucin have been used for generations to soften, repair, and brighten the skin. Thanks to the latest scientific techniques, these ingredients are absorbed even better and work more effectively.
When you want to incorporate K-beauty into your routine, you should primarily look at what your skin needs at the moment. Do you suffer from redness or inflammation? Then products containing Heartleaf extract or Centella Asiatica (Cica) are a great option. Is your skin dry? Opt for products with ceramides or rice bran oil.
Luxury results for an affordable price
A big advantage of Korean beauty is that many products are affordable without compromising on quality. This is because Korean brands invest in efficient production, smart packaging, and developing targeted formulas without unnecessary additives. As a result, you mainly pay for what really works.
10-step plan
Although you don't have to perform every step daily, this routine forms the basis of K-skincare. You can adjust the steps to your skin and lifestyle. Want optimal results? Then follow these ten steps:
- Oil-based cleanser: removes makeup, sunscreen, and oil residues.
- Water-based cleanser: cleans deeper and removes water-soluble dirt residues.
- Exfoliant: removes dead skin cells and stimulates cell renewal for smooth skin.
Note! You may exfoliate your skin a maximum of 2 times a week. - Toner: balances the pH level and prepares the skin for the next steps.
- Essence: a K-beauty classic! An essence hydrates and promotes the absorption of active ingredients.
- Eye cream: cares for the sensitive skin around your eyes and helps reduce dryness lines. Depending on your routine or skin type, you can apply this in the evening and/or in the morning.
- Serum: addresses specific skin issues such as pigmentation, acne, redness, or fine lines. Choose a serum that fits your skin needs.
- Sheet mask: provides deep hydration and a visibly fresh skin.
You can use a sheet mask a maximum of 2 times a week. - Moisturizer: seals all previous layers and ensures your skin stays hydrated. Even with a short routine, you should never skip this step.
- SPF: an absolute must to apply to your face in the morning, especially when going outside. Protects against UV damage, pigmentation, and premature aging.
Sometimes you don't need to follow all the steps to achieve glass skin. Experiment with what works for you! But do keep the order of light products to heavy products in mind, just as the K-philosophy intends.
