These are the best eye masks of 2025

They are shiny, cool to the touch, and are applied under the eyes as if it is the most normal thing in the world. Eye masks, also known as eye patches, are now a staple in the beauty routine of many celebs. Hailey Bieber wears them in her morning vlog, Kourtney Kardashian sticks them under her eyes while sipping her matcha latte, and backstage at fashion shows, they have been indispensable for years. But what do eye masks actually do? Are they more than just a glamorous accessory? And why are they an essential step in your skincare?

What is an eye mask and why should you use it?

These half-moons are packed with active ingredients and are specially developed for that delicate skin under your eyes. Unlike regular creams or serums, eye masks provide an intensive, targeted absorption of active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, caffeine, niacinamide, or vitamin C. They not only hydrate but also help reduce puffiness, dark circles, and fine lines.

The skin around your eyes is thinner, more sensitive, and often the first place where fatigue or aging becomes visible. I see that in myself too. Since the birth of my son – almost three years ago now – the skin around my eyes has changed quite a bit. That’s exactly why our eyes deserve extra attention. Eye masks not only provide a visible boost but also give that cared-for feeling. And honestly? That makes me very happy.

How eye masks can transform your routine

Eye masks are ideal as a pre-dinner boost, but just as nice on a weekday morning when your reflection looks just a bit more tired. By applying them right after cleansing, you give the skin under your eyes a big hydration shot. Combine that with a cup of coffee and your day starts off much fresher. Not only do you feel better after using eye patches, but your makeup also looks better. Concealer adheres more smoothly to hydrated skin, and the better your skin is nourished, the less quickly makeup accumulates in lines or starts to ‘crease’.

These are the best eye masks of the moment

One of my favorites is the eye masks from Charlotte Tilbury, although those from 111SKIN are also top-notch – but they come with a serious price tag. What do I always look for? Patches must stay in place. Nothing is more annoying than walking around your house and feeling them slowly sliding down towards your chin. They can be well-soaked with active ingredients, but if they are too wet, they just don't work practically. So: not every eye mask is the same. You notice the difference immediately. From fresh and budget-friendly to a bit more luxurious – these are our favorites of the moment.

Tip: The Ordinary has a Caffeine Solution serum that works fantastically under patches. Just use a tiny drop for extra effect.

Eye masks in the celeb circuit

Hailey Bieber starts her morning routine with shiny eye patches – regularly seen in her TikToks and YouTube vlogs. Also nice as a promo for her own Rhode patches that are coming (of course). Kourtney Kardashian uses them during her matcha moment and reportedly also just before Zoom calls. Jennifer Lopez swears by them backstage for her performances, and during Met Gala prep, you see them on everyone: from Zendaya to Lily Collins. Eye patches are simply part of the glam squad.

What the experts say

Backstage at fashion shows – where models endure little sleep and a lot of makeup – eye masks are a standard part of the makeup artist's kit. They are often used in combination with a cold roller to stimulate circulation and smooth the skin. Makeup artists swear by them to create the perfect canvas. And when Hailey Bieber gets her makeup done? You will always see those patches appear first.

Are eye masks a must or a nice-to-have?

An honest answer? Both. You don't necessarily need them, but once you've tried them, you really don't want to be without them. It just feels so nice when you take them off your skin. They are the shortcut to a fresh look, the secret weapon on days when you've gone to bed just a bit too late. And let's be honest: even a small pampering moment like this can work wonders for your mood. Just like that layer of makeup or a good glass of wine on a bad day.

Tip for warm days, or after a night of poor sleep: store your eye masks in the fridge for an extra cooling effect. Apply them to clean skin and let them do their work while you pick out your outfit or make a nice coffee (or matcha). After use, gently massage the excess serum in and you're ready for your day, your evening, or to snuggle under a blanket for a series.
