Beyoncé and her father Mathew: it remains a bit complicated

As a Beyoncé fan, you have to be quite strong on your feet in recent months. It seems as if the rumor mill surrounding Diddy is now mainly focused on finding connections with other celebrities. And who is at the top of the list? The Carters, as Bey and Jay affectionately call their little family. They also released an album with that name, but that's beside the point. Rumors about trouble within this family turned out to be unfortunately true: Jay Z cheated with ‘Becky with the good hair’, as Beyoncé referred to her in her song ‘Sorry’ (spoiler alert, in that song Bey says no sorry). After a video was leaked showing Bey's sister Solange giving Jay a piece of her mind in the elevator (she gave him a few good hits and Bey's bodyguard had to step in), the rumors of infidelity were impossible to deny.
Of course, Beyoncé blessed us with a few songs about the situation
Jay had to take quite a beating in the songs on Bey's album ‘Lemonade’, and as an apology, she even demanded that he make an album about her to prove that he really loves her. With that album, she gave an honest look into her life, as Adèle (my fellow superfan) shouted during her acceptance speech at the Grammys. Bey reveals on this album that cheating is something that has destroyed multiple generations of her family. The men in her bloodline were all guilty of it, confirming what many fans had suspected for a long time. Bey's father Mathew also cheated quite a bit during his marriage to her mother Tina.

The relationship between Beyoncé and her father Matthew has not always been stable
It's almost impossible not to know who Mathew Knowles is, given that he was one of the key drivers behind Destiny's Child. As the group's manager, he was at the cradle of their global success. But it's not always easy when your father is not only your father but also your boss. Therefore, it hasn't always gone smoothly between Bey and Mathew. From the start of Destiny's Child in 1990 until 2011, Mathew was her manager. Of course, that professional split was enough reason for the tabloids to speculate about a feud between father and daughter. The divorce of Mathew and Beyoncé's mother Tina was also brought up.
Beyoncé's oh-so-sweet daddy had quite a heavy secret
The divorce of Tina and Mathew was not without reason. Mathew turned out to have (accidentally?) fathered a child with another woman. It's understandable that Tina kicked him out when she found this out. Eventually, Mathew married the mother of the baby in 2013, but Beyoncé and her sister were not present at the wedding. I can imagine that this was out of loyalty to their mother and that it doesn't necessarily have to do with the bond between father and his daughters.

And then something happened that almost makes all arguments disappear
In 2019, Mathew revealed that he had been diagnosed with cancer. If there had been any arguments within the family at that time, they were completely resolved then. The bond between Beyoncé and her father seems healthier than ever now, and he has clearly wanted to make this known by publicly stating how incredibly proud he is of Bey. Whether this is seen as a sincere message in her eyes, we do not know. Because the fact remains that we used to see Mathew a lot with Beyoncé, and nowadays we hardly see him at all. Meanwhile, mother Tina is releasing a book about her experiences during the early days of Destiny's Child. It was actually a kind of family business: dad as the big boss and mom designing the outfits.
I think we all hope that Jay Z has learned something from this
I dare say we agree that Jay Z is a tremendous fool for cheating, but hopefully he has learned his lesson after listening to the album ‘Lemonade’. Still, I wonder if Bey herself has learned anything from studying the relationships in her family while writing those songs. Since her daughter Blue Ivy danced almost every night among the professional dancers on stage during Beyoncé's world tour, her career seems to have officially launched. She already got a role in the live-action version of ‘The Lion King’, but that surely won't be the last project she works on. Will Bey approach her duties as a ‘momager’ just like her father? Or has she learned from his mistakes how she does not want to do it? Only time will tell...
