Christmas movie: this will be the new hit on Netflix

By
"A close-up of a smiling man and woman sitting across from each other at a table, possibly in a café or restaurant. The woman, with blonde hair and a red knitted sweater, looks at the man with a broad smile. The man, with dark hair and a dark gray chunky knit sweater, is also smiling and looking at the woman. They both have their hands folded on the table. In the foreground, there is a glass jar with red flowers and in the background, an out-of-focus Christmas decoration."

Yes, it's October, which means Christmas is almost around the corner. Okay, let me take it easy for a moment, but the fact is that we are slowly diving more and more into the world of those oh-so-great Christmas movies. And do you know who stars in the latest hit from Netflix? None other than Virgin River-star Alexandra Breckenridge. And she plays a... surprising role. Curious? Read on quickly.

A man and a woman stand behind a table in a cozy, well-lit kitchen. The woman, with blonde hair and dressed in a dark green sweater and a red checkered apron, leans slightly forward and looks with a surprised or worried expression. The man, with longer blonde hair and dressed in a Norwegian Christmas sweater with a red and white pattern, stands slightly behind her and has the same surprised look. On the blue and white checkered table are scattered cookies, small chocolate candies, and there are silver bowls and waffle cones, suggesting they were busy baking or decorating gingerbread houses. In the background, a sink and a large window with plants can be seen, and on the right side are open shelves filled with jars and groceries."

From the cozy Virgin River to... Santa Claus?

Alexandra has to say “hello” to Melinda and “hi” to Taylor, because for the Netflix Christmas special Mijn Secret Santa she steps into the shoes of none other than Santa Claus himself. I can hear you thinking: “Huh, Laudonne. Isn't that a bit of a surprising twist?” Well, when you explain it, it's actually not such a strange story: Taylor wants to earn some extra cash as a single mother. For that, she takes a job: she has to dress up as Santa Claus at the village ski resort. All her plans go awry when she falls in love with the handsome manager, played by Ryan Eggold from New Amsterdam and The Blacklist.

Taylor has to disguise herself as Santa Claus often. How should we picture that? Uh, with a lot of prosthetics, like a fake nose, fake cheeks, a fake forehead, wig, fat suit, and yes, even fake hair. Alexandra is almost unrecognizable in that suit. And it wasn't comfortable either. During the podcast Small Stupid Stuff she mentioned that the velvet suit was so heavy that she could barely move. The temperature differences made it even worse: in the evening it was super cold and inside she had to put ice packs in her suit to avoid overheating. Isn't that crazy work? Sometimes she walked around in that round thing for three hours.

Those Christmas movies on Netflix are going to be a success

We secretly already know that this movie is going to score well. First of all, the actors are very good at their job, unlike some Hallmark films. Now I must say, that although they are sometimes bad, those Hallmark films are still intensely desired. So it's not surprising that this one is written by Hallmark and Netflix holiday specialists Ron Oliver and Carley Smale. Oh, and it is directed by Mike Rohl – yes, the one from the viral Princess Switch-Christmas trilogy. So this promises a lot of good. I'm looking forward to such a cheesy Christmas romance. You? Yes? Then I come with good news: Netflix is releasing many more Christmas movies. Like...

A Merry Little Ex-mas (available from November 12)

Alicia Silverstone from Clueless is back for the messiest Christmas ever. Kate (Alicia) has just divorced. To pretend everything is okay, she plans one last “perfect Christmas” before selling her house. Unfortunately for Kate, this perfect picture is ruined when her ex-husband shows up on the doorstep with his younger girlfriend.

Champagne Problems (available from November 19)

(Hello, Taylor Swift reference!) This is one of those stories we've seen ten times, but can never get enough of. Ambitious businesswoman Sydney Price (Minks Kelly) travels to France to close a deal with a wine company. Her plan to stock up on expensive wine is thrown off course when she meets a handsome Frenchman, who just happens to be the son of the wine boss.

Jingle Bell Heist (available from November 19)

Two thieves, Sophia (Olivia Holt) and Nick (Connor Swindells), unexpectedly team up to rob one of the largest department stores in London on Christmas Eve. But yes, all plans fall apart when they get caught up not in beautiful things, but in feelings.

If this isn't enough Christmas anticipation, then I don't know what is. I at least know what I'm going to binge in the coming time, with a nice warm chocolate milk on the couch.
