This is the healthiest sport in the world.
Healthy healthy, well, that's certainly debatable. Playing sports is definitely super good for you. But when you add up all the facets, one sport stands out by far — with head and ball. It is… Padel. And that is the reason.
Padel is incredibly fun – and that's actually where it all starts. It is not only a good workout but also the perfect social activity.
For a few years now, so many Dutch people like me have become fans of Padel. Last year, over 350,000 people played a match every month. That's an 18% growth in one year! And the courts are popping up just as quickly. Worldwide, it is currently the fastest-growing sport.
But aside from its enormous popularity, Padel is also extremely healthy. When you look at the combination of longer life, a fit body, a sharp mind, and social fun, no other sport achieves such high values.
1. Padel is mega addictive (and very accessible)
Thanks to the smaller playing field, the glass walls, and the underhand serve, you quickly have long rallies. And that is so much fun. The technique is really easier than in tennis and the game is much more dynamic. The coolest part: You can use the back glass wall. This makes Padel feel like a perfect mix of tennis and squash. It is fast, playful, and strategic. No wonder it seems like everyone is playing Padel now.
2. Hard facts: Racket sports players really live longer
Several studies show that people who play a racket sport have a 47% lower chance of dying early than non-athletes. A Danish study even mentions an average of 9.7 more years of life for those who regularly play tennis, squash, or Padel.
3. Full-body workout without joint wear
During matches, Padel players move at about 40–50% of their maximum oxygen uptake and heart rate zones, which correspond to an intense HIIT session, but with less strain than running. And playing on cushioned artificial grass is much better for injuries, and due to the compact field, the strain on knees and ankles is really much lower than in many other ball sports.
4. Mega workout for the brain
Yes, I could really use that too. Every rally requires decisions in fractions of a second, positioning (one usually stands at the back, the other at the net), and of course communication with your partner („Are you taking the ball or am I?“). Studies link racket sports to better memory, cognitive sharpness, and stress relief. So Padel is chess, sprinting, and small talk all in one.
5. Super social is super healthy
Padel is played 99% of the time in doubles, which automatically expands your circle of acquaintances (and perhaps later your circle of friends) enormously. Because everyone brings people to play Padel with. WhatsApp groups grow rapidly because of this. And so the social aspect, the connection, becomes a proven „Blue Zone factor“ for a nicer, more sociable, longer, sportier, and happier life.
6. Comparison: Padel vs. other sports
When comparing Padel to other sports, you see that it scores very high in cardio, muscle training, cognitive abilities, and injury risk. More than, for example, running, soccer, or cycling. Hence the title „healthiest sport in the world.“.
Conclusion
So. What are you waiting for? If I can do it, really anyone can. This sport is so much fun, indoors or outdoors. The perfect outing with friends or a partner. But also for young and old, it is really accessible.
