Dutch designer Duran Lantink shocks Paris

Before I start talking about Duran Lantink's show Ready-to-wear Fall show at Paris Fashion Week on March 9, I will first update you. The Dutch Duran Lantink always seeks the opposite of what fashion traditionally stands for. So don't expect luxury, traditional, or classic designs, but rather more diversity and discussion-provoking designs from him. One of his more well-known works is the vagina pants that are on display at the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, on the ground floor. So, now that you know a bit more about him and his work, I'll tell you about the show from the day before yesterday that took place in Paris.

Six-pack opener

The opener of the show was Mica Arganaraz, who wore a particularly striking shirt. Um, or well, shirt… It was actually a shirtless shirt, she opened in a silicone torso shaped like a male six-pack. Reactions like ‘WHY?’ and ‘Um, nope’ appeared on Instagram. The six-pack look was styled with black trousers, the front of which stuck out and stood up.

After the opener, there were still 51 ‘dressed’ looks. Lantink often used foam padding techniques to create mega shapes in garments like jackets and dresses. Just like in the show from Prada two weeks ago, where Prada and Simons designed the clothing to deviate from the traditional fit, Lantink also used mega-deviating shapes to make the clothing more challenging and (literally) outstanding. In addition to all this, he also experimented with various prints. There was a lot of animal print on display and there was also some body painting. Zebra and leopard patterns were painted on the bodies of models. The show took place on an office-like catwalk, where models walked between white cubicles filled with stacks of paperwork and working people. Probably to keep creating contrasts.

Trigger warning, please!

Chandler Frye, a model who has recently been walking major shows for Givenchy and Fendi, closed the show. Frye came last onto the catwalk in the same trousers that Arganaraz opened the show with. But where Arganaraz wore a male torso, Frye had two mega silicone breasts hanging from his body, bouncing down the catwalk. After the show, videos of this quickly spread on social media. The media is in an uproar over this design and people even asked for a trigger warning. It was definitely not boring.
