Grab your diary: these films are coming out in 2026
Are you already in a panic because 2026 is just around the corner? Yes, I get that it really feels like this year has only just started three months ago, but you have to face it. In a few days it's Christmas and before you know it, you'll be sitting on the couch with a oliebol. Yep, and a new year means a whole lot of new things. Resolutions, plans, goals – or well, there are also more fun things to look forward to. Like: new movies. Yes, I'm always ready for that. And 2026? It's going to be a fantastic year for films. From The Odyssey to The Devil Wears Prada 2: these blockbusters you want to see in theaters. Trust me.
January
People We Meet on Vacation
This is the feel-good romcom you want to binge-watch all cozy in January. Two friends with too much history… and even more unspoken feelings – who hasn't experienced that? We follow the two friends Poppy and Alex who went on vacation together for years, but their dynamic completely changes when feelings alter everything. This film breathes exactly the Emily Henry vibes (because hello, book adaptation of one of her biggest books) and serves up romance that your friends will still be asking you about the next day.
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple
Welcome back to the world where even your own shadow wants to kill you. After nearly thirty years, the deadly rage virus world returns and now it's grimmer than ever. After the apocalypse, a mysterious temple realm sounds like a luxury wellness resort for the survivors of the virus – uh, until you see what's inside. This raw post-apocalyptic horror is truly intense. You have to see this in theaters.
Send Help
Linda (Rachel McAdams) is completely different from her boss Bradley (Dylan O’Brien). He doesn't think she has ‘it’ to get a promotion. To prove him wrong, he invites her on a business trip. During the flight, everything goes wrong and the plane crashes. Together they end up on a deserted island. Castaways. Anyone? Okay, well. What starts as surviving together slowly turns into a psychological trauma of revenge and primal instincts. If you thought this was going to be a funny, romantic film… Then you're mistaken. And who says no to Rachel and Bryan? Not me.
February
Scream 7
Ghostface is back. He's younger and has even faster knife skills. Old school horror rules and the new generation screams. Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) thought she could start a new life, but her greatest fear becomes reality: her daughter Tatum (Isabel May). This film drops easter eggs and inside jokes as if you're right back in a horror spoiler shop. Sidney must confront her fears from the past and finally put an end to this copycat.
Wuthering Heights
Wild, romantic, and steamy. A feeling that storms harder than the wind on a heath; that's Wuthering Heights. This passionate love story about two people who are not allowed to be together has been filmed many times, but now Emily Brontë's story gets a new face with Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, who will play the roles of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff. We follow the two in their intense, all-consuming relationship, which brings a lot of danger with it.
March
The Bride
Yes, we're getting another Frankenstein story. This time from the perspective of the Bride. She seeks her own identity in a world that sees her as a monster. Christian Bale is Frankenstein and they try to lead a ‘normal’ life together. That can't end well, right? Horror meets philosophy in this film, so that promises a lot of good.
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man
Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) is back in black. He's older, tougher, and more mysterious. The city is dark, the Colts are loaded, and the family problems are more epic than ever. Now that the future of his family is almost obliterated by the world war, Tommy must face his own demons. Will he go for his legacy? Or will it all burn away? This film feels like the last chapter of a series that you've embraced for years. It's big, gritty, and so peaky.
Reminders of Him
This is yet another book adaptation that all of BookTok is waiting for. A young mother, Kenna (Maika Monroe), tries to rebuild her life after a great loss. She was once the reason for a fatal car accident. She survived it, but her great love? Not so much. Guilty as ever, she must move on. Love and forgiveness get a second chance when a surprising figure appears in her life. Will she ever see her child again? And how will she make a living? This is such a heavy romantic film that you don't just put on, but once it starts, you can't stop watching.
Project Hail Mary
It’s Ryan Gosling time. And now in space, then. That piano stays at home. He wakes up alone in space with just one mission: to save Earth. Slowly he discovers who he is: a scientist sent away with one mission. He must save humanity. Why? Yes, I'm not going to give any spoilers. This is The Martian meets Interstellar, but with more friendship and less freeze-dried food.
The Magic Faraway Tree
This is for you and the kids. Tim Thompson (Andrew Garfield) moves with his family to the countryside. Those kids? They find it dead boring here. There's no wifi and nothing to do. Against warnings, his daughter Fran goes into the woods. Here she discovers a magical tree. When she enters the tree, she suddenly finds herself in a magical hole. This tree is full of bizarre worlds and every climb brings her to a new adventure. Fran is up for an exciting adventure, so off she goes. Into the magical world. To bring the family closer together, they all decide to step into the unknown. And when you have such a star-studded cast… Yes, this film has to be a success. Who then? Oh, just: Rebecca Ferguson, Andrew Garfield, Nicola Coughlan, and Nonso Anozie. Yep. I'm definitely up for a countryside fantasy story.
April
Ready or Not 2
Do you remember that movie from 2019 where Grace (Samara Weaving) got married, came to her in-laws, and suddenly the whole family tried to kill her? Yes… That movie felt like a fever dream and that deadly game is not over yet. Now that Grace has survived the family, she thinks all that misery is finally behind her. However, when she wakes up in the hospital, this is not the case. This dangerous game was not devised by the family, but by a larger organization. Now that she has survived ‘hide and seek’, she has unleashed a new part of the game. And now she is not alone, but must also keep her estranged sister alive.
You, Me & Tuscany
Sun, wine, and love in Italy: we have romcom bingo. Two people, one Tuscan dream, and a pile of clichés that you honestly just love. Young chef Anna is invited by an Italian stranger to his villa. That old villa is just sitting there with no one in it… She gets to go there, so yes. Off goes Anna. Desperate for a new life, she boards the plane to Tuscany. Once there, she ends up in an abandoned villa and a family that thinks she is his fiancée. Which is her own fault, really, if you try on someone else's engagement ring. To save her skin, she goes along with the story and falls in love with the land and its family. Oh yes, and she falls for her ‘fiancé's’ cousin. Hailey Bailey and Regé-Jean Page (So that's where he's been all this time, in Tuscany) finally star together in a fantastic romcom.
Michael
A biopic that is just as good as Bohemian Rhapsody is exactly what we need right now. Michael Jackson finally appears on the big screen. Dance moves, drama, and that step – yes wow. Everything about Michael's past and his path to stardom is seen in this epic jukebox film. This is the biggest and most intimate portrait that any Michael fan wants to see. I'm already excited, especially to see Michael's nephew play him.

The Devil Wears Prada 2
Okay, okay, we don't yet know what part 2 is really about, but we are absolutely sure that there will be a part 2. The first images are here and wow, they are amazing. Finally, after so many years, we see Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep again as Andy and Miranda Priestly. And honestly: this feels just like the original. What's it about? We don't know anything yet, but if we follow the second book, then we have an idea. It takes place 10 years after Andy's dismissal from Runway . She works at a bridal magazine and she is married to Max Harrison (thankfully that Nate is no longer in the picture). We follow her as she navigates the six-figure wedding, a pregnancy, and her chance encounter with Emily. It's not exactly a fantastic friendship right away, but they bonded over their Miranda PTSD. This goes so well that they start a magazine together. Will the film go the same way? I wonder.
Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu
The handsome Mandalorian Djin Djarin and the super cute Grogu are back. And now they're going for the big screen. Action and emotion go hand in hand in this space fantasy. Think galactic shoot-outs and a father-son bond that is increasingly discovered. As a Star Wars fan, I'm personally very happy about this. The comedic timing is fantastic and yes, everything Grogu is in is just too cute. We're going to see the Star Wars universe like we've never seen it before. I can’t wait.

Live Action Moana
I could go on and on, but if all goes well, you already know this story. Does it feel like Moana came out yesterday? Yes… I'm going to shock you, but it's already been 9 years since the Disney film was released. We relive the Polynesian story of island princess Moana, who goes on an adventurous journey across the ocean to save her island. Here she meets demigod Maui, who helps her on her journey.
Disclosure Day
Steven Spielberg is back with a science fiction story. And boy, it's really good. After Close Encounters of the Third Kind and War of the Worlds we finally get another space story from this director. What the film is really about is still a mystery, but we do know that Emily Blunt and Josh O’Conner play the lead roles. What we do know is that aliens are coming back to Earth and humanity must see the truth that they are apparently being denied.
Toy Story 5
The modern world has also impacted the universe of Toy Story . Toys are in the corner and what comes there… Their biggest nightmare: an iPad. Is the time of toys over? If it’s up to Buzz and Woody, probably not.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
After the success of Superman is back with a new film from D.C.: Supergirl. She now gets her moment to shine. I’m sure this is going to be a success, because you can already see from this teaser how good it is. The music, the set, the comedic timing. Marvel is my thing, but D.C… is starting to win me over more and more, you know. I want to see Supergirl while she’s at rock bottom. And yes, with that dog as a sidekick, I want to see it. This summer we’re going on an adventure through space with the newest superhero. And no: we’re not going to talk about that sad bit with the dog. He just survives. We don’t know anything yet, okay?.

The Odyssey
This is already being called the best film of 2026. After Oppenheimer Christopher Nolan is back with another blockbuster that’s going to be a real classic. Now it’s not a modern story, but an oldie. The film follows Odysseus (Matt Damon), the king of the island of Ithaca. After the Trojan War, he finally tries to go home. For this, he must make a dangerous and years-long journey. He and his crew find themselves in danger day in and day out. And I’m not talking about a bunch of pirates, but the cyclops Polyphemus, sirens, and Circe; the daughter of the sun god. While he tries to get home, his wife Penelope waits for him. His son Telemachus (Tom Holland), however, is not so patient; he decides to set out on a quest to find his father. Does this sound boring? Maybe. If you Gladiator didn’t like it, then maybe you should stay home. But every film lover can’t ignore this spectacle.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Hey, there’s Tom Holland again. But now he’s back as Spider-Man. We didn’t really know what to expect, but there’s probably a teaser that has leaked somewhere. What we do know is that Peter Parker (Tom Holland) ended up very sad and alone. After saving the world (again), no one remembers who he is and maybe that’s for the best. Right? Or does Peter disagree? That’s the question.
September
Resident Evil
After a long time, we’re back in the world of Resident Evil. And not with Alice, but a regular courier, Bryan (Austin Abrams). While he tries to deliver a package in a remote hospital, he ends up in a new Raccoon City outbreak.
Remain
This romantic thriller with Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor follows Jake as an architect trying to rebuild his life in New York after being hospitalized for his depression. To move on, he decides to head to Cape Cod and build a summer house for his best friend. He hopes this will improve his state, but his mood completely shifts when he starts having visions and hallucinations. Is he really going crazy? Phoebe’s character runs a B&B and somehow knew his sister.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping
Do you want pre-Panem chaos? A pre-Katniss rebellion? Then you’ll get that, but it won’t be fun. So grab those tissues. We see a young Haymitch Abernathy (Katniss’s mentor, remember?) during his participation in the 50th Hunger Games. These were so intense that it was called the Second Quarter Quell. In this special edition, there are double tributes who must fight to survive. We see how Haymitch became so tormented and also old acquaintances… Because that Snow, he’s still at it. This guy is already so old, yes.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew
Greta Gerwig’s version of Narnia is finally here in November. Do we have a trailer? Nope. But we do know what it will roughly be about, as this is based on the Narnia books. This is the first part. We start in England, where two children, Polly and Digory, go on an adventure in the attic. They end up in the study of Digory’s evil uncle Andreas. He claims to be a wizard and possesses magical rings that allow him to travel to unknown locations. He doesn’t really know how they work, so he lets the children be guinea pigs – as the coward he is. They flash away and end up in the unknown world of Narnia. Whether we will actually follow this story is the question, but I think we will.
Avengers: Doomsday
This is also one of those “we don’t really know what’s going to happen” situations, but we do know that this film is going to be big. All sorts of big names, like Captain America and Thor, are coming back. Yes, also Iron Man. Only, not as we know him. Tony Stark returns as a Tony variant from another universe, named Doctor Doom. Four months after the events of Thunderbolts the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and the X-Men team must fight against Doctor Doom. More than that, we don’t know.
Dune: The Messiah
Here’s Timothée Chalamet with his Dune 3. We make a time jump to 12 years later. Paul Atreides (Timothée) is struggling with the terrible war that has arisen in his name. He doesn’t know how to move on, and it only gets worse when his twins, Leto the Second and Ghanima, are born. He tries to steer humanity onto a better path while getting caught up in various political intrigues. And there’s also another little thing: his immense power, which costs him a lot. You have to see this. Even if it’s just for how the film is made.
Films we don’t have a date for yet:
You Deserve Each Other
In the adaptation of this book, we follow Naomi Westfield (Meghann Fahy) and Nicholas Rose (Penn Badgley), an engaged couple who gradually realize that they are losing feelings for each other. Instead of canceling their engagement and the non-refundable wedding, they decide to sabotage the entire ceremony with all sorts of pranks. Does this hilarious nonsense bring the two closer together? Probably. But we’ll see it all. Honestly, I’m just happy to see Penn in a nice movie for once and not as a stalker.
The Love Hypothesis
A good romcom? I’m always up for that. Olive (Lili Reinhart) is a 26-year-old third-year biology PhD student at Stanford University. To convince her best friend Anh that she has moved on from her ex-boyfriend, Jeremy, she decides to convince her professor to go on a fake date. He, Dr. Adam Carlsen, is a young 34-year-old professor who is not exactly beloved by his colleagues. They have cut off all his research funding because they are afraid he will go to another competing university. To convince his colleagues and boss that he’s not going anywhere, he decides to go along with Olive’s crazy plan.
So there are plenty of films coming out this year, but yes; you can be sure that you have something to do every month. What are you most looking forward to?
