The people, the climate, the temperament mixed with hospitality, that little bit more enjoying life and of course the food. If you know me a little, then it’s no secret that I am in love with Greece. It’s even so serious that I crawl behind my laptop every Thursday afternoon for an online Greek lesson from Evi. I would love to be there as much and as often as I can. What am I saying? One day I will (partly) live there. So it makes sense that the coolest neighborhood in Europe in 2022 according to time to momo is in Greece. Call me biased, but I completely understand that.

In this case, it’s about the neighborhood Psiri. The fun part is that my Greek friends are also crazy about this little village in the center of Athens. When I ask for tips for Athens, they say without exception: Psiri. By the way, if you can’t find the name right away: that’s correct. The neighborhood Psiri is also known as Psyrri, Psyri, or Psirri, because the official spelling in Greek is Ψυρρή.

Don’t expect whitewashed walls and those typical Greek windmills in Psiri, because the neighborhood has transformed in recent years from rough and raw to hip. The street art splashes off the walls in the streets. Psiri has filled up with vintage shops, artists, trendy stores, all side by side with the old craftsmen. But what it is mainly known for are the delicious places to eat, drink, and enjoy. Whether you end up in the courtyard of the authentic Avlia, in a wine bar with only Greek wines, or on a rooftop terrace where you taste modern Greek cuisine; anything goes in Psiri.

Just 34 more nights to sleep and then I’m flying to Athens to stay in, it can’t be a coincidence, Psiri. When I’m in a city for a week, I like to move around in between. The first half of the week is still undecided, but for the second half, I’m settling down at The Foundry Suites. From the rooftop terrace, you have a view of the impressive Acropolis, but below you, the hip Psiri is buzzing. There’s no better combination, if you ask me.
