Is your health insurance actually still 2026 proof?

By

There are those adult tasks that no one ever feels like doing. At least, I really don't. Like, for example, Taxes. Opening an important piece of mail that has been sitting under your coffee mug for three days. And of course your health insurance. Because somewhere in December you think: “Oh, I'm doing fine, right?” But spoiler: often not.

And that's exactly why I decided to throw my own insurance through Independer. Not because I've suddenly become an insurance nerd, but because I heard you can check in 5 minutes if you've been paying too much unnecessarily for months.

Why Independer is actually quite brilliant

Independer is therefore a comparison site that shows all health insurers. Not one, not two, but the entire range. You fill in your age, your postal code, whether you visit the physio a lot or mainly see your GP only for “something with a fever.”.

And then... bam, an overview. Premiums, coverages, benefits, everything in understandable language.
And the best part?

You don't have to browse through ten websites first, decipher small print, or deal with cancellations. If you switch, they simply take care of that last part. Such a service that you normally pay extra for, but here it's just free.

So, here's how easy it works:

  1. You fill in a few basic things: age, place of residence, how often you visit the hospital on average (hopefully: zero).
  2. You click on what you find important: dentist? Physio? Free choice of care because you value your favorite specialist?
  3. You immediately get an overview of insurances that match your healthcare needs.
  4. Is there something better or cheaper? Then you can sign up for it directly.

What to watch out for:

  • natural policy vs. restitution: in other words: do you want a lower premium (natura) or free choice of care (restitution)?
  • additional insurance: do you really go to the physio or dentist often, or is that a once-in-a-while thing?
  • deductible: remains €385 in 2026.
  • the premium for 2026: around €158.68 per month.

And the nice thing: Independer shows what you really need. So no over-insured situations because you went to the physio once in 2018 after a failed squat attempt.

You can seriously save money

According to Independer, you can save up to €511 per year by choosing a different health insurance. That's literally: a new winter coat, dining out four times, or a weekend away with a spa.

It may not be a sexy topic, but hey, extra money is definitely sexy.

Conclusion: just do it now

Grab your laptop, and compare your health insurance for 2026. No hassle, no stress, just making smart choices.

And when you roll into the new year with a cheaper insurance?
Sounds grown-up, right?
