You must have this new exfoliating lip serum from The Ordinary

Now that the weather is getting colder and drier, you might experience chapped lips. Yes, you know the feeling: those little cracks and tiny flakes that come off. You really don’t want that, do you? I don’t, at least. That’s why it’s important to take good care of your lips during these cold months. You do this by (just repeat after me): hydrating and exfoliating. How do you do that? Very simple: with a good balm AND a top exfoliant. Now I understand that you don’t want to spend hours searching for ‘which exfoliant is good’, because you can find a balm quickly. So relax, lean back and read on, because The Ordinary has just released a brand new pink exfoliant. And this one? You’ll want to try it.

First of all: what does an exfoliant actually do?
It makes your dull skin radiant. Uhm, that sounds like a marketing pitch – I get it – but it’s really true. That’s due to the low percentage of acid in the product. It removes dead skin cells, accumulated sebum, sweat, and other residues that collect on your skin. Once all that ‘waste’ is gone, a fresh, shiny layer of skin remains. But doesn’t a scrub do that too? Nope. A scrub violently removes a layer from your lips, causing all sorts of tiny scratches. An exfoliant removes dead skin cells at the cellular level, so your skin doesn’t get damaged. That’s much better in the long run.
And is this serum really good for your lips?
With those acids, you can exfoliate your lips in a much gentler way – that’s really good. Especially for that thin layer of skin on your lips. These aren’t thighs that you can scrub endlessly. But okay, is the PHA 5% Exfoliating Lip Serum a hit or miss? We’re going to evaluate that.
Let’s start with the ingredients: glycerin provides hydration and keeps your lips supple. And there’s a lot of it: no less than 50% of this serum consists of this substance. Furthermore, it contains 5% PHA’s (gluconolactone, a polyhydroxy acid) and 1,5% AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acids). So there’s not much acid in it, but just enough to do the hard work. And the hydrating ectoine? It restores the skin barrier after exfoliating. Speaking of a 3-in-1 serum. Additionally, there are pH regulators in it, such as citric acid and sodium hydroxide, preservatives, AND a natural thickener.

So yes, girls. It’s approved by a medical scientist. Then you know it’s good. But what do ‘ordinary’ people think?
Reviews, reviews, and more reviews
Of course, many people have already tested this new serum. I’ve gathered all the opinions for you, so you can be sure whether it’s worth it or not. And no, no sponsored ads; just real opinions.
@alicia.lartey I’ve spoken about this lip exfoliant sooo many times now but I think it’s launching tomorrow. If I didn’t get any at the event I would actually be first in line to buy it myself!! @The Ordinary because chapped lips WHO?! I’ll continue to use it but after using it for almost 2 weeks now (every other day) I’ve already seen really good results. #exfoliate #lipcombo #theordinary #newproduct #estheticiantiktok

@justglox This is the new @The Ordinary Store UK @The Ordinary exfoliating lip serum – I like the product but it needs new packaging asap. In the meantime, I’ve made my own🥰 #theordinary #lipserum #exfoliator #lipcare #drylips
Outside of TikTok – yes, that still exists, really – there were of course other reviews to be found on the worldwide web. These were also very positive: “This product is now a staple in my nighttime skincare,” wrote Desirée from Curvacious for example. Well folks… stop searching for an exfoliant for your lips, because this one is the bomb. It’s light, spreads easily, and feels soft on the lips. And throw away that lip scrub, because it does more harm than good. Trust me.
How do you use the serum?
This is a serum that you don’t use every day. Just like with scrubbing your body, you shouldn’t do this daily: two to three times a week is ideal, preferably in the evening. Clean your fingers and apply one to two drops on clean, dry lips. And that’s it — you don’t need to wash it off. Once it’s absorbed, apply your favorite lip balm or moisturizer. This ensures silky, soft lips, really. And if I may give a tip: as soon as you wake up, apply a nourishing balm (with SPF) before going outside. My favorite lip balms are those from Ole Henriksen. They are so hydrating.
Oh and one more fun fact: this serum is free from silicones, alcohol, oil, AND it’s vegan and cruelty-free. So that’s a nice bonus. I’m going to order it quickly before it’s sold out. Bye.
