Why Landman is the coolest series of the moment

Landman: West Texas at its best
Landman is set in the west of Texas, in the so-called “oil-boom towns” around Midland. With the vast landscapes and oil fields, you see the harsh reality of that intense oil industry. Everything is rough, hard, and ruthless. The world there revolves solely around oil, power, money, environment, and conflicts. A breeding ground for much of the drama in Landman.

Billy Bob and Ali Larter: the perfect match
If there's one reason to Landman watch, it's the roles of the distinctive Billy Bob Thornton (who is really perfectly cast for this series) and Ali Larter (you might know her from the series Heroes). Thornton plays a dull broken man. Larter plays his uber sexy, superficial ex-wife. The dynamic between the two is brilliant. In fact, the chemistry between these two is actually the engine behind the series.

Angela: the powerhouse that makes the show
Ali Larter as ex-wife Angela Norris in the series is anything but a supporting role. I really find her the heart of the chaos in Landman. In that world where men hold all the strings, Angela is the woman who shouts everything out loud. She is full of raw energy, passion, and unpredictability: Larter brings her role with so much charm and intensity that you have no choice but to find her brilliant. At least, that's what I think; opinions are quite divided online. Many see her as a superficial “female eye-candy”, but I find it brilliant. She is explosively engaging in her behavior with ultra-sharp remarks, combined with her charm and unpredictability. I really love it.
Ex-husband Tommy Norris navigates dryly through the world of oil and power, but then there's Angela, the tigress when it comes to her daughter. She has her own agenda and pulls out all the stops to conquer her place in the world.
Ainsley: the rebellious daughter
Michelle Randolph plays Ainsley, the daughter of Angela and Tommy, and she is the perfect complement to her mother. At least as pretty, maybe even prettier. And while Angela is the storm in the oil industry, Ainsley is a rebellious airhead with a clear will. Ainsley mainly wants to go to a university where she has no restrictions on who she can date. In her admission interview at Texas Christian University (TCU), she makes it clear that she believes cheerleaders should not be banned from dating athletes. She sees this as an important factor in her choice of school. I laughed so hard at this.
The mother-daughter dynamic really Landman takes it to a higher level. It's their blunt honesty and unconditional love for each other that give the story the depth you wouldn't expect in a series about oil, money, and power. The interaction between Angela and Ainsley brings not only drama but also delightful humor and surprising softness in an otherwise rough world.

Why Landman is so much more than oil and power struggles
Why you Landman really should watch, it's the way the female characters beautifully balance the roughness of the oil industry. The series is not just about men making deals and pumping oil; it's also about the women who are not afraid to stand up, fight, and put everything on the line.
So, if you're still in doubt: Landman it's not just a series about oil and power.
