Omg: Laneige is coming out with a special fall sleeping mask

"A triptych of photos of a young woman with long, dark hair promoting the new Laneige 'Fall Sleeping Mask' products. On the left and right, she holds up the orange-brown jar with the lip balm. In the middle, she is smelling the orange product packaging with the text 'LANEIGE' and 'JASMINE TEA / FALL 2025'."

Ah. October. Can you feel the cold autumn breeze yet? I can. If there's one thing I'm a fan of, it's autumn. Secretly, I'm quite the ‘stereotypical autumn girl’ who loves to wear brown leather jackets and often enjoys a pumpkin spice latte. It doesn't just have to be in drinks, you know. There are pumpkin spice cookies, muffins, cheesecake, and sleeping masks. Huh, what? Yes, you heard it right: there is a pumpkin spice sleeping mask, and believe me, you want to have it.

Well-groomed lips with a hint of pumpkin

Pumpkin may not immediately sound like the tastiest flavor for a lip mask, but the entire internet is captivated by Laneige's latest launch: the Pumpkin Spice Sleeping Mask. The Korean brand cleverly plays into the hype, because how cute does this look? The warm, orange color alone gives you autumn vibes. You definitely want to try this, right?

It's also a clever marketing trick: in autumn, your lips get drier and you crave more hydrating products. And that pumpkin spice? We love it in this season, so Laneige thought: we can do this too. By playing with popular themes like Gilmore Girls and pumpkin pie, they immediately grab attention. Which I understand, because that packaging is just super cute, right?

Why is everyone so obsessed with pumpkin spice?

Well, it's actually just a simple spice mix of cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and nutmeg. You can easily make that yourself, right? That's correct. It resembles ‘our’ speculaas spices. This breathes autumn. But why does everyone want to immerse their face in such a pumpkin spice pie? Well, dear people, research has been done on that.

According to researchers from the Two Krieger School, it all has to do with the scent. “We've been smelling that pumpkin spice aroma in cafes and stores for years. There's no escaping it. Combine that with the arrival of colored leaves, family dinners, and back-to-school feelings, and you have a recipe for nostalgia,” said assistant professor Jason Fischer. We're all just so sentimental, we think back to the good times: hanging out with family, seeing pumpkins by the roadside, those beautiful orange trees, and eating everything with cinnamon. You've linked that scent to those memories, so it's not strange that you're reminded of it.

Because of that link, you immediately get a warm feeling. You think back to fun moments: you get serotonin. Additionally, pumpkin spice is a seasonal product, so your brain projects the idea that you need to have this right now, because otherwise you won't be able to get it the rest of the year. Clever marketing technique, indeed.

But just to be clear: does it actually work well?

As nice as it smells, we still want to know if this mask is really good for your lips. Otherwise, it’s pointless, of course. So let's weigh the pros and cons: this pumpkin color has the same basic ingredients as other variants, such as shea butter, coconut oil, and murumuru butter for nourishment, and vitamin C to protect against external aggressors found in all your food (yes, just leave those Sour Patch Kids for now). All those substances result in one end result: hydration in a jar.

That’s what Phillipa Pearne from Live That Glow also thought, who tested the product this year. The idea is that you use this as a sleeping mask for your lips, and it works well for that: “After using this more often, my lips have definitely become smoother on the surface. The hydration genuinely lasts all day after you've slept with it on, and no, I haven't experienced any pilling like some have. If you want it to work to its best potential, it's best to apply some hyaluronic acid before putting this on. The sleeping mask is ideal for keeping moisture from escaping.” So it works well too. Great, right?

Is this the best fall lip combo?
Trust me: this is such a good lip combo. Pair it with a warm brown lip liner and there it is: the best fall lip. Because many people use it not only as a sleeping mask but also as a hydrating lip gloss. The burnt orange color is just too cute, right?
