New on Netflix in April

Our long wait has finally been rewarded: spring has officially begun. The sun is cautiously showing itself a bit more often, but in the Netherlands, that can always suddenly change again. If there are still some rainy days this month, Netflix will at least ensure that we don't have to be bored. I'll go through the most fun movies and series with you that you can enjoy, whether in the spring sun or not.
Strange Darling (April 2 on Netflix)
The month starts off well for all thriller fans, as ‘Strange Darling’ will be released on April 2; and with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 96 percent, it promises to be an exciting movie night. A young woman ‘the Lady’ (Willa Fitzgerald) meets a man ‘the Demon’ (Kyle Gallner) and the two have a one-night stand. The evening turns into a drama and the Lady must flee for her life. As she becomes increasingly weakened, she must stay out of the hands of the Demon. It may sound like a standard serial killer movie, but nothing could be further from the truth. With quite a few time jumps, you are constantly kept on your toes, and all the characters turn out to have quite a few secrets.
Love on the Spectrum season 3 (April 2 on Netflix)
‘Love is Blind’ and ‘Too Hot To Handle’ are of course delightful with all the drama. But the fact that this hecticness is not a must for a good dating show is proven by ‘Love on the Spectrum’. In this series, singles on the autism spectrum search for love, with all the challenges that come with it. Fortunately, they are not completely alone and receive help from dating coach Jennifer Cook. In this third season, we meet a number of new faces, but also see some favorites from previous seasons return; like that incredibly sweet Tanner. Believe me, you’ll be sitting on the couch with a huge smile regardless.
iHostage (April 18 on Netflix)
Thrillers are often based on true events, but this time it hits very close to home. ‘iHostage’ tells the story of the hostage situation at the Apple Store in Amsterdam in 2022. After an earlier documentary on Videoland, Netflix now comes with a crime thriller. And although the creators say that the event was only the inspiration for the script, the trailer seems to come very close to the truth. From the perspective of the hostage-taker, the victims, and the emergency services, iHostage shows what happened that day.
Pulse (April 3 on Netflix)
As a ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ fan, one title makes me very curious. Netflix is coming out with a new medical drama: ‘Pulse’. In the series, we follow the doctors of the Level 1 Trauma Center in Miami. And they immediately get busy when a hurricane approaches. As we know from medical drama series, not only the patients will cause problems, but also the romances and secrets among the staff. Are we perhaps spotting our new McDreamy here?
Clueless (April 5 on Netflix)
Does the phrase ‘ugh, as if’ ring a bell? These iconic words come from ‘Clueless’. Just a little refresher: Cher Horowitz (Alicia Silverstone) is the most popular girl at her school and seems to have everything perfectly together. But when she is accused of being selfish and superficial, Cher wants to prove the opposite. She decides to help the new girl Tai (Brittany Murphy) become more popular. That plan seems to work well, maybe even a bit too well. Tai's popularity seems to surpass Cher's, and that cannot be the intention. This one definitely deserves to be (back) on your watchlist.
You season 5 (April 24 on Netflix)
The moment is finally here: the very last season of the thriller series ‘You’. We meet Joe (Penn Badgley) three years after he left for New York with Kate (Charlotte Ritchie). Kate is now the CEO of Lockwood Corporation and Joe, as her loving husband, is also in the spotlight. Very different from the under-the-radar life he is used to. He seems to have finally found his happy ending, until his past and dark desires confront him again. It will definitely be a bang of an ending.
Bad Influence: The Dark Side of Kidfluencing (April 9 on Netflix)
Last month, the Disney+ documentary ‘Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke’ caused quite a stir. Now Netflix is also coming out with a documentary about the dark side of child influencers. ‘Bad Influence: The Dark Side of Kidfluencing’ tells the story of the now 17-year-old influencer Piper Rockelle, who has been active on social media since she was eight. Together with her friends, who called themselves The Squad, she made various videos that quickly attracted millions of viewers. All of this was overseen by her mother Tiffany Smith, but that ‘supervision’ later raised many questions. Tiffany is accused of child exploitation, manipulation, and abuse. The three-part docu tells the stories of various members of The Squad and their lawsuit against Tiffany.
