Surprisingly; this woman will be the new Anna Wintour

and she is nice!

By

Omg, it's hot off the press: today VOGUE announced the news. The writer and co-host of The Run Through, VOGUE's weekly fashion and culture podcast, is taking over Anna's baton.

Who is Chloe anyway?

The 39-year-old has been working for the magazine for ten years in various positions. She is the daughter of French director Louis Malle and actress Candice Bergen, who — how could it be otherwise — played a VOGUE editor in Sex and The City. How coincidental! The apple doesn't fall (kind of) far from the tree.

The born New Yorker studied literature at Brown University and wrote for The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. In 2011, she changed course and started at VOGUE. Oh yes, and she is married and has two children that you regularly see in her Instagram dumps.

What has she done at VOGUE?

When she started in 2011, Chloe was the social media editor. It wasn't just about weddings and clothes, but also about politics, interiors, gardens, beauty, and health. She has even written several books for VOGUE — not many can say that.

In 2016, she became a writer for the magazine and got the chance to oversee special projects. And she did that well. Since she started writing for the website in the fall of 2023, the visitor numbers have doubled. She also brought a fresh perspective to the site by writing about major events like the Met Gala and Vogue World. All new forms of storytelling, such as the podcast, came from her brainchild. Think of Dogue and the Vogue Vintage Guide.

Why was she chosen?

Anna Wintour knew that she had to make a good choice. If you've been at the helm for 37 years, you don't want to hand it over to just any writer. “I knew I only had one chance to get it right,” Anna told her colleagues. “At this moment of change, both within fashion and beyond, VOGUE must continue to function as both the torchbearer and the boundary-pushing leader. Chloe has repeatedly proven that she knows how to find the balance between the long, unique history of American VOGUE and the future at the forefront of the new. I am incredibly excited to continue working with her — not only as her mentor but also as her student.”

She calls Chloe VOGUE's secret weapon when it comes to fashion. Like the best designers, she understands the bigger picture of fashion and the role it plays in what walks not only on the runway but also in modern life. “Her talent lies in original thinking and hard work.”

A favorite of Anna, so — Chloe can check that off her bucket list.

What can we expect from Chloe Malle?

She has a resume that speaks for itself, but what are we going to see from her? What will change within VOGUE? Well, just like her predecessor Anna, Chloe is not afraid to involve politics in the fashion world. She is an outspoken Democrat, which was evident in an episode of her podcast when Donald Trump was re-elected as president. She spoke about her disappointment with Jack Schlossberg, the grandchild of former president John F. Kennedy, whom she had invited as a guest.

She herself is super excited. “Fashion and media are both evolving at a rapid pace, and I am so happy – and impressed – to be a part of it,” Chloe said in the announcement. “I also feel incredibly privileged that Anna is still just a door away as my mentor.”

I think we can expect surprising campaigns from this girl. Just the idea that she has started a dog version of the magazine says enough. Chloe has crazy and especially new ideas. Maybe she will take a direction that Anna never dared to take?

What do you think? Will we see more animals on the covers? Or will we get a VOGUE with more ‘woke’ people who previously weren't seen on the covers? We will see. I'm already ready for it.
