These 14 products contain the fewest calories

By

Look, life really isn't just about eating superfoods and tracking every calorie every day... But let's be honest: if you're in the middle of your healthy era, you'll still have to pay attention to calories. Not obsessively, but you should keep an eye on it. Life is about balance, of course. On the weekends, you go out and enjoy some wine and a good charcuterie board, and during the week, you're back at the gym. How do you do that? By making some good food swaps with products that are low in calories. With these 14 products, you'll breeze through the week and before you know it, it's the weekend again.

1. Whole grain gingerbread

When you dash out the door in the morning, you might just have enough time to put on your socks (and that's already quite an achievement). A hearty lunch with warm, fresh oatmeal? No, that's not happening today. But honestly: those quick snacks are often unhealthy and packed with calories. Fortunately, there are better choices, like whole grain gingerbread. One slice contains only 67 kcal. And this variant from Peijnenburg? It not only contains almost no sugar, but also nearly 5 grams of fiber. So yes, it's not only tasty, but also really healthy.

2. Honeydew melon

If I like something, it's honeydew melon. I can easily eat a whole one. Especially in the summer, when it's so warm and you've let it sit in the fridge. That cold melon is really my little moment of happiness. And it's great for your calorie deficit, because 100 grams has only 38 calories. A bowl of this melon can do no harm, and it also contains fiber and protein, so this is the ideal snack.

3. Greek yogurt

Yep. The Greeks knew what they were doing when they invented Greek yogurt. This thicker yogurt is, in my opinion, much better than regular yogurt. You don't have a thin mush, but just a solid protein-rich meal that doesn't feel like you're drinking a smoothie. And I'm not talking about those little ones with strawberry jam at the bottom, but just plain Greek yogurt. Put it in a bowl and add all kinds of delicious fruit, that way you keep the calories low, because in 150 grams there are only 183 calories. That's quite different from eating a frikandelbroodje with 800 calories for lunch.

4. Zucchini

You can almost stick zucchini in anything. In vegetable lasagna, in your salad, or you can make those crunchy bites from the oven. It's such a versatile vegetable that blends in everywhere as if it's wearing a military jacket. And with only 16.7 calories per 100 grams, you can't eat enough of it.

5. Tomato

“Here she comes again, with her vegetables,” I hear you thinking. Yes, it's just the case that vegetables are low in calories. Face it. Those are just facts. Or well... Is this even a vegetable? Before we dive into the calories, I want to ask the hard critical journalistic questions first. Isn't that tomato just a fruity imposter in green clothing? Yes, actually it is. Botanically speaking, a tomato is a fruit because it comes from a flower and contains seeds, but it is often seen as a vegetable because it's so savory. Of course, this red friend is good for your sports regime: in 100 grams, there are only 20 calories.

6. Thick corn cakes with sea salt

Sometimes you want more in life than pickles and cucumbers. Something crunchy that you can snack on in between. I always choose these thick corn cakes with sea salt. This is exactly what you need if you want something salty but don't want to add 400 calories to your day. Because yes: in such a cake, there are only 41.91 calories. You don't need to run extra for that. Top them with whatever you want: chicken breast, cottage cheese, 100% peanut butter... Anything goes, because you won't add that many calories with those toppings anyway.

7. Turkey slices

A bit of protein then, you need that too. Not fatty meat that fills you up for three hours, but something you can easily combine with your calorie plan. Those turkey slices have only 29 kcal per slice. Isn't that ideal? Put them on a rice cake and add some avocado on top. This is a protein-rich and filling snack that really fits into your fit journey.

8. Watermelon

Just like honeydew melon, this is one of those products that I can wake up for in the summer. Or always, actually. This juicy, red melon always scores well in my book. I find it super tasty to make a salad with strawberry, mint, and arugula. Add a lemon dressing and you have a meal that cools you down. You don't have to skip this fruit for the calories. In 100 grams, there are only 30 calories.

9. Blueberries

A bowl of blueberries can never go wrong. They are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and fiber. Who would have known that so much goodness could be packed into such a small thing? They even help with many processes in your body due to all the good substances they contain. They improve your brain function and support your blood pressure. This reduces the risk of heart and vascular diseases. You can also make my favorite summer snack with them: yogurt blueberry bites:

10. Cheesestrings

Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but cheesestrings are really ideal for those moments when you want to snack quickly. With only 61 calories, you can easily eat a few to get through the day. Is lunch still an hour away? Grab one from your bag and you have some energy again. And the best part? There's also 4.8 grams of protein in such a stick, so that's a nice bonus.

11. Kelp noodles

Who says you have to skip noodles in your routine? Noodles are actually meals that are so deliciously simple and healthy for you, but yes, they are packed with calories. I know how you can keep doing this: eat kelp noodles. These insane noodles contain only 6 kcal per 100 grams. That's literally almost 10 times fewer calories than in a rice cake. (Yes, I'm serious.)

12. Sweet & Salty popcorn from Proper Corn

A movie isn't complete without a bowl of popcorn, but those popped corn kernels really have a lot of calories. And I haven't even mentioned the sugar that's in them. That's why you better go for the Proper Sweet & Salty popcorn instead. In a whole bag of this super addictive popcorn, there are only 460 calories. That sounds like a lot, but that means there are only 150 calories in a bowl of 100 grams. It's much better to eat such a snack during your movie night than freshly baked nachos. Right?

13. Skyr Icelandic style yogurt

Are you on the go? Then you want a squeeze yogurt. Or at least, I always find that nice when I'm on the train or need to rush somewhere. You can slurp it right in the car without having to deal with a bowl and spoon. Ditch that breaker with 90 calories, this one from Skyr has much less sugar and only 71 calories. I know which option I'm going for.

14. Flatbread

Does it seem like everyone suddenly is into flatbread? You might be right. This unleavened bread is always sold out, and for good reason: there are only 108 kcal in such a bun. Because it has so few calories, you can really stuff it with all sorts of things. Add some tuna salad and 30+ cheese to make a healthy tuna melt. Make tzatziki with Greek yogurt and fresh dill, or go for pickled red onions and cottage cheese. Whatever you do: everything is delicious with this naan-like bread.

TUNA MELT FLATBREADS 🩵 Recently, I shared Asian tuna melt quesadillas and you all loved them! Hopefully, you find these flatbreads just as tasty. If you can't find flatbreads in the supermarket, you can also use pitas. For lunch, I would take 2 pieces per person and for dinner 3 pieces. For 6 pieces: ▫️ 6 flatbreads ▫️ 1 can of tuna (in water) ▫️ 1/2 red onion ▫️ 1 tbsp capers ▫️ 4 slices of jalapeño ▫️ 1/3 point pepper ▫️ 1.5 tbsp yogurt mayo or mayonnaise ▫️ 1 tsp horseradish paste ▫️ 1 tsp ketchup ▫️ 3 handfuls of grated cheese 1. Chop the red onion and cut the point pepper and jalapeños into small pieces. 2. Drain the tuna. In a bowl, mix the tuna, red onion, jalapeño, point pepper, capers, mayonnaise, mustard, and ketchup. Season with black pepper. 3. Preheat the sandwich maker. 4. Distribute the tuna salad and grated cheese over the flatbreads. Fold the flatbreads closed and place them in the sandwich maker for about 4 minutes. They are ready when the cheese is melted and the outside is golden brown. Enjoy! ✌🏼 #tunamelt #flatbread #tuna #tonijn #flatbreads #recipe #tunasalad #aantafelbijjannie
