The tip to test your concealer in the store

We all know it: you feel like (or you just HAVE to) get a new concealer. After countless swatches, you finally found the right shade (hallelujah), but how do you know if it really works for your skin? Because the hardest part about a concealer is of course not the color, but the result. Will it crease, settle into your fine lines, or will it dry out? Does it stay smooth and soft, or does it turn into a cakey layer?

According to my favorite TikTok account, The Lipstick Lesbians, there is one place where you can test that perfectly and no, it’s not under your eyes, on your neck, or on your arm.

The place where you test concealer

On the curve of your hand, right at the transition to your thumb. Make sure your skin there is clean (it’s fresher for the product AND for the next person who tests it, right?). Apply a small dot of concealer and blend it out by dabbing over the curve of your hand. Then take a little walk around the store or wait a few minutes and see how the concealer behaves: does it stay nice and even, does it not dry too quickly, and how does the texture feel? This way you can immediately see if it creases or stays nice and smooth, how the coverage is, and if it matches what you’re looking for.

Finding the right shade of concealer

By the way, you can also test the color well in that spot, because the curve of your hand is closest to the undertone of your face (as long as you protect your skin well with SPF every day — that spot doesn’t really get that sun-kissed color after your vacation). That’s why it’s one of the best places to see how the formula reacts to your skin.

A simple test with a big effect and the chance of a bad purchase has become much smaller this way.

@thelipsticklesbians BEAUTY PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT TRICK! Can’t believe this was posted about two years ago 😱 Over time I’ve found that I get the most accurate lay-down for concealer when I deposit product on this part of my hand. Since it naturally creases just like your under eye will, it’s a clever way to simulate how your concealer might perform on your actual face. Obviously this is only for creasing, and not for color ❤️ Will you be using this little hack? It’s a go to for me always! #makeup #makeuptips #concealer #thelipsticklesbians #beautytips ♬ original sound – The Lipstick Lesbians
