The Gustaf Westman x IKEA collection is a must-see

(and you want to grab it now)

By

Ah finally: here it is: the Gustaf Westman x IKEA collection. After the announcement of the autumn collab in June and the sneak peek of the ‘meatball plate’ in August, it’s finally here. We can finally look forward to these colorful items. And the best part? It’s affordable and design. That – you – want – to have.

Yesterday, the designer already dropped hints about the collection. He wore an IKEA blouse and took the meatball plate to South Korea – while that blue thing (and Gustaf himself, of course) was still found in our own little Netherlands a week ago. He had a pop-up in Amsterdam, which was amazing by the way.

Okay. Focus. About the collection, then. Because that’s what you’re waiting for.

What does the new Gustaf Westman autumn collection for IKEA look like?

We know the Swedish designer for his chunky tableware in every color you can think of. So it’s no surprise that the collection mainly consists of tableware for the Swedish furniture store. (But there are really more items, you know). Think green, think pink, think blue: these are the colors of the collab. We’ll stop yapping, you can grab these products very soon: Dinner plate (€24.99)

Nope. This is not your everyday plate. It has a square edge so you don’t spill! Just kidding, but that square edge is real. It’s just not meant to catch your bread crumbs: it’s style. You can immediately see that these are Gustaf’s brainchildren: the bright colors and soft shapes are just him. This playful design makes serving your culinary creations a bit easier – because everything looks better on this plate. Yes, even your burnt lasagna.

Serving plate (also known as the meatball plate) (€24.99).

We already know this one: the blue plate that was specially made for the fortieth anniversary of the beloved Swedish meatballs. Of course, it can be used for more than just those meatballs. I think of sauce… Or maybe a creative way to eat soup? Or – hold on – a drinking game? Yes, the options are endless.

Cup with saucer (€7.99).

It wouldn’t be a Gustaf Westman collection without a cup. That’s what he became so popular for: those round cups with round saucers that fit together like puzzle pieces. Now these aren’t as rounded as his usual work, but they are certainly beautiful. In pink and green, you can grab this cup (with saucer, of course). You can use those saucers as dessert plates, or to make your dinner party a bit more interesting.

Table lamp (€19.99).

Yes, our Gustaf even made a lamp. The light bulb is surrounded by chunky pink circles that you can just place on the table as if it’s a plate, but you can also tilt it (completely in Gustaf style) so the shape changes completely. This way it stands askew in its place: just a bit more special.

Candle holder (€6.99).

A candle holder. Yes! You can never have enough candles and candle holders. It makes your home so cozy and snug. Especially in autumn, when it’s dark and raining all day like today. It’s also a nice red, so it fits perfectly into the warm picture.

Vase (€29.99).

When you say spirals, you say Gustaf. He tries to make everything in a spiral. Like

his magazine holder (or baguette holder , as Gustaf uses it). Now he can add another spiral item to that: the vase. It may not be very, uh, practical, but it is beautiful. Just put dried flowers in it. Or those LEGO bouquets., Candle holder (€6.99).

That dark green color comes back in the candle holder, which you can use for small tealights or large candles. Can you already picture it? During the Christmas dinner with all those dark green or dark red candles. I can’t wait.

LED candle holder (€29.99).

Just go for sustainable. If you prefer not to cause a fire hazard at your Christmas dinner, then you can bring out this red LED candle holder. The shape does resemble Santa's sleigh a bit. Or am I crazy? Well, anyway. It’s a cool lamp.

Can’t wait to shop this festive collection? Then you’ll have to sit on your hands for a bit. It will be available in stores from October 1st. There was a pre-sale for IKEA Family members on September 30th, but that’s already sold out. Or are you going to sneak in hoping to join? We’re not encouraging you, you didn’t hear that from us.
