These actresses shone the most at the Oscars 2025

After the Oscars ceremony had to be postponed due to the wildfires in the Los Angeles area, it finally happened last night: the most famous and best actors and actresses made their appearance on the red carpet, hoping to return home with their hands filled with golden statuettes. The fact that our small country was able to take home an Oscar dominates all the news today. But what is also drawing quite a bit of attention is the absence of certain actresses. Because as Nicole Kidman was showered with compliments for her role in ‘Babygirl’, both her fans and colleagues were shocked when it turned out that she was not nominated for an Oscar in the category of ‘Best Actress’. Nicole was therefore not present at the big awards party, and she was not the only one who shone in absence.
Why were these actresses overlooked?
Kate Winslet, who brilliantly played the role of war photographer Lee Miller in the film ‘Lee’, was, to the great surprise of many, also not nominated this year. Kate also chose to skip the event, instead of watching her colleagues anxiously waiting to hear who would take home the prize. Like Demi Moore, for example, who is experiencing a sort of ‘revival’ of her career this year due to her role in ‘the Substance’. She appeared radiant on the red carpet in a beautiful dress, and it seemed as if the interventions in the film had their effect in real life. Because wow, she looks fantastic and radiant. Despite her beautiful look and fantastic acting, Demi also went home empty-handed, but at least she can comfort herself with the fact that she was nominated.
There was one performance that the entire audience was greatly looking forward to
Perhaps it is the most hyped film of the year, and whether you are a fan or not, it cannot be denied that the singers in Wicked are some of the very best in the world. When Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande took the stage to sing, among other things, the song ‘Defying Gravity’, it was a huge highlight for most people in the audience and at home.
If you haven't seen it yet, please watch it back. Even though Wicked colleague Michelle Yeoh (who incidentally wore a fantastic dress by Balenciaga) must have heard the song about three thousand times by now, she couldn't hold back her tears when she saw the two women standing together on stage.
