This is the healthiest sport in the world
Of course, it is in itself to play sports. But if you gather all the facets, there is one sport that really stands out: padel. And here is why.
Padel is incredibly fun – and that is actually the most important thing. It is not just a good workout, but also a perfect social activity.
In the last few years, so many Danes have become crazy about padel. Last year, over 350,000 people played padel every month in Denmark – a growth of 18 % in just one year! The courts are also popping up like mushrooms. Globally, padel is actually the fastest growing sport right now.
But besides being super popular, padel is also extremely healthy. If you look at the combination of longer lifespan, a strong body, sharp mind, and social joy, no other sport scores higher.
1. Padel is addictively fun (and very accessible)
With the smaller court, glass walls, and underhand shots, you quickly get long balls and rallies. The technique is easier than tennis, and the game is much more dynamic. The best part is that you can use the glass wall, which makes padel a perfect mix of tennis and squash. It is fast, playful, and tactical. No wonder it seems like almost everyone is now playing padel.
2. Research shows: racket sports players live longer
Several studies show that people who play racket sports have a 47 % lower risk of early death than non-sports players. A Danish study even shows an average gain of 9.7 years of life for those who play tennis, squash, or padel regularly.
3. A full-body workout without strain on the joints
During a padel match, you work at 40-50 % of your maximum oxygen uptake and heart rate, which corresponds to an intense interval workout, but with less strain than running. Moreover, the cushioning artificial grass court protects your joints better, and the smaller court means less pressure on knees and ankles compared to other ball sports.
4. Super training for the brain
Padel requires split-second decisions, positioning (one player behind and one at the net), and good communication with your partner (“are you taking it, or am I?”). Studies link racket sports with better memory, increased cognitive sharpness, and stress reduction. Padel is therefore chess, sprinting, and social interaction at the same time.
5. Social interaction is healthy
Padel is almost always played in doubles, which provides a natural social circle. People often bring friends, and group chats grow quickly. The social aspect and community are a well-known “blue zone” factor for a longer, happier, and more active life.
6. Comparison: padel vs. other sports
Compared to other sports, padel scores high on fitness, muscle strength, cognition, and low injury risk – higher than, for example, running, football, or cycling. That is why it is called the “healthiest sport in the world.”
Conclusion
So what are you waiting for? If I can do it, anyone can. The sport is fun both indoors and outdoors, perfect for friends or couples, and is super accessible for both young and old.
