My teenage son who just won't accept that he really needs to put on his gloves, the boy who incessantly drums on the counter while waiting for his coffee to go, but also the opinion that someone else has of me: all things that I can get quite worked up about on a daily basis. That costs energy and time. Time that you could have spent on yourself; in the form of me-time or achieving goals that you have set for yourself but keep pushing forward due to ‘lack of time’. Time to do something about it then! And that is exactly what the book ‘The ‘Let Them’ Theory’ by Mel Robbins helps you with.

Who is that Mel Robbins anyway?

The story of the author is just as fascinating as her books. Years ago, she and her husband got into serious financial trouble. A debt of $800,000 weighed heavily on their shoulders and, as you can imagine, this led to sleepless nights, resulting in depression. Until one day she woke up and decided that she needed to take action if they wanted to get out of trouble. This ultimately led to her first book ‘The 5 Second Rule’. She is now one of the most sought-after speakers in America and is praised to the heavens by people like Oprah and Khloe Kardashian. In short, she has been quite successful in her plan to improve herself, and thus her life.

This second book really teaches you to focus on yourself

It's no secret that if you want to change, you need to take action. But you might sometimes be afraid of the opinions of others or be somewhat affected by the influence that other people have on you. If you recognize yourself even a little in this, this book is exactly what you need. Using various examples, Mel explains how you can apply ‘The Let Them Theory’. In short, it’s about learning to think: ‘let the rest do what they do, I focus on my own actions’. It sounds so easy, but the way you apply this in your daily life is, of course, still quite complicated. If you are bothered by your boss because they have a negative energy around them, it’s hard to ignore that (unless you’re trying to get fired, but I think that chance is small). Still, there is a way to not take on that stress and return to yourself, without slacking off and getting yourself into trouble. Believe me, after reading this book you will feel an enormous positive vibe and be completely motivated to do everything you have been postponing for so long, without doubt or fear of the opinions of others.

The Dutch translation of the book is already available as an ebook, the paperback will be available from February 18.
