Why we can't stop talking about the series Yolanthe

By

When Yolanthe Cabau announced her own reality series on Netflix, opinions were divided. The idea that she had moved to LA for more privacy from the Dutch press and was now seeking the spotlight again didn't seem logical to everyone. Meanwhile, all the nagging Instagram comments have made way for compliments. We can't stop talking about ‘Yolanthe’ and the series is firmly in the Netflix top 3. This has everything to do with the candid glimpse into her life that we get; a life that is certainly not just glamour. We discuss the most striking moments.

Emotional conversations of the Cabau family

Right from the first episode, it becomes clear that Yolanthe also wants to share the more emotional moments in her life. She speaks openly about her childhood in Spain. Her father Xavier Cabau was known as ‘the king of Ibiza’ and was a well-known entrepreneur who owned restaurants, bars, and clubs. Yolanthe grew up with 7 siblings and another five half-siblings, and it was anything but carefree. Her father was addicted, which led to unsafe situations at home. In later episodes, the rest of the family also discusses what this has done to them, and Yolanthe's mother Richarda is also open about the abuse that led to her fleeing to the Netherlands. Her battle with cancer is also discussed in the series. These are heavy conversations that show how close-knit the family is.

Yolanthe on the accident that left deep scars

How important the role of her family is only becomes truly apparent when Yolanthe has a serious accident. She falls from a horse and breaks her pelvis, back, and neck. From her navel down, she feels nothing anymore, and the fear is great that she will never be able to walk again. The rehabilitation lasts for months, and especially brother Xavi and sister Deborah support her intensively. The white hospital gown is a stark contrast to the glamour in which we often see Yolanthe, but even now, the cameras are there with every step. And it is precisely that vulnerable side that resonates so deeply with viewers.

Yolanthe's fight for

Free a Girl

Yolanthe's work as an actress and on TV is well-known to many, but what not everyone knows is that she is a co-founder of the foundation ‘Free a Girl’, which works to free girls from sexual exploitation worldwide. Besides seeing Yolanthe on set, we also see her work for the foundation in various episodes. She travels to Nepal where she visits bars and pubs in the evenings to bring girls who are forced to work there to shelters. It is an intense journey that leaves its mark on Yolanthe. ‘What happens there, I always carry with me. It is in my heart. It is in my soul.“ Another side we get to see.

A new life in LA

Amid all her work, Yolanthe is also busy building her life in LA. Her acting career and lifestyle brand still need to get off the ground; but there is more. After buying a large house in Beverly Hills, a significant renovation is still to come; but as you might expect, that doesn't go according to plan. The house becomes a major headache, and setbacks pile up. Meanwhile, Yolanthe is also largely alone in caring for nine-year-old Xess Xava. The relationship with Wesley Sneijder is fortunately good again after their messy breakup, and they talk a lot, but with such a long distance, driving back and forth is not possible. Trips to the Netherlands are therefore planned as much as possible, and in the meantime, the family is ready again.

This is how enthusiastically the audience reacts to the series Yolanthe

Yolanthe's inbox is now filled with positive reactions to the series; and they come from all over the world. She received a message from someone in South Africa who wanted to thank her for sharing her life and being an inspiration. What touches Yolanthe the most are the messages in which people say they can relate to her story and draw strength from it. “That my experiences help and inspire others is the most beautiful thing that could have happened to me.” Besides the many compliments, people especially want to know if there will be a second season. Yolanthe herself has not said anything about it yet, but the TV producer Tina Nijkamp even mentioned in her podcast before season one came out that green light had been given for more episodes. Whether they will actually come and when that will be is still to be seen. For those who haven't watched yet, the first season of ‘Yolanthe’ is now available on Netflix.
