WIDM recap: this fan theory was actually true

Episode 5

By
who is the mole 2025

Although I would undoubtedly call myself a WIDM fan, there are always the die-hard Molloten who go just a step further. They analyze just about everything that has even a little to do with the candidates; and the crew is also under a magnifying glass. It turned out that one of the directors of the program only follows a few of the candidates on Instagram: the three eliminated contestants so far, and one other person. Surely that one must get the next red screen? And indeed.

A complicated dance

Let's first talk about the rest of the episode. Did everyone feel that task one was so long? Fortunately, we could look at the decor of the Angkor Wat temple complex all that time. After the group was suddenly split during a motorcycle ride, Sam, Sophie, Roos, and Stijn were given the task of remembering traditional Cambodian dance movements. That wasn't all; they could also earn money through small challenges in the meantime. Hoping to get as much as possible into the pot, they chose the average and difficult steps and tasks. What they (probably) didn't know was that with these choices, they also set the bar quite high for the rest of the group. Meanwhile, Nora, Maaike, and Bridget were given a dance lesson in which they had to remember those same movements. Nora quickly gave up; this was too difficult for her. As far as I'm concerned, she drops down the suspect list. They would never let a Mole step out of a task so obviously, would they? While the remaining ladies are practicing fanatically, Stijn is particularly on fire in the other group. The other three are slacking a bit. Roos, Sophie, and Sam, we are noting all of this down.

In search of perfection

After their efforts at the temple complex, group one is taken to a theater. A hefty job for the Cambodian drivers, who almost send the long and heavy Dutchmen flying off the road. One of the drivers has also managed to catch that the Mole is doing well. Were they sitting behind one of them, or is the local population just as captivated by the search as we are? We don't have much time to dwell on this; task one continues. Bridget and Maaike get to show what they have learned. If they can perform ten movements perfectly, the group earns €2000. But if they make even one mistake, they get nothing at all. With utmost concentration and also one laughing fit, the ladies try to show perfect dance steps It seems to be going well, but both of them make a mistake at one point. The group gets one last chance to save the money. If Sam's team can name which two movements were wrong, the earnings are saved. But unfortunately, the notes and traced dancers could no longer help them. With only €750 from the challenges added, the Mole has managed to keep the pot quite low again.

A lesson in handiwork

We stay in the creative tasks for a while; the candidates have to make wooden Buddhas. If the average grade is a 7.5, they earn €1500 for the pot. Sam is probably preparing himself; this not-so-handy Harry will have to work hard for a passing grade. After a short lesson from the real masters, everyone gets to work enthusiastically. In all their enthusiasm, a wooden nose or upper lip breaks here and there. While the artworks are being judged, the group can kill time with headphones playing waiting music. Until suddenly Rik's voice sounds, addressing the Mole. If the candidates can guess which two figurines are the prettiest, they earn another €1000. But just when Rik is about to announce the two names, a loud beep sounds for everyone. Except of course for the Mole, although with all the poker faces, it's hard to tell who has heard something. With an average score of 7.35, the group has indeed failed their handiwork exam. Then it's time to discuss the consolation prize. After a vote, the figurines of Sophie and Maaike are designated as the prettiest. Maaike scores second place with an 8.5 and earns €300; Sophie misses out with a 7.0. Roos turned out to be the true artist of the group; with her 10, she could have earned the most money. For a moment, it seemed she would also be chosen in the discussion, but thanks to Bridget, Sam, Roos, and Nora, this did not happen. Did one of them have prior knowledge?

The theory is correct

The moment we, and probably especially Maaike, have been waiting for weeks is finally here. Sam decides to hand over ‘his’ joker, but in exchange for some information. He wants to know who Maaike bet on in the very first task of episode one. He doesn't get much out of it, as she was all in on Teun. When Maaike also promises to help him with Ray's mysterious tablet in episode 7, the transfer is complete. The trump card can be used immediately; it's time for the test. To come back to the fan theory: the fourth candidate being followed by the director is Bridget. And yes, she gets to see a red screen. The prediction turned out to be true. As a final act, Bridget gets to decide who the new treasurer will be. She hands over the baton to Maaike and then really leaves for the eliminators' hotel. Although it wasn't really a surprise, I'm still quite disappointed that my main suspect is now gone. I guess it's time to go through all the previous notes again. Next week, our search continues.
