Met Gala 2025: the looks, theme and the insides

Last night it was that time again: something I look forward to every year – the Met Gala 2025. This year was truly an edition that stood out for me. And what makes it even more fun? That I can now share my annual Met Gala obsession with you all.

The theme of Met Gala 2025: Superfine: Tailoring Black Style

This year, the Met Gala was all about Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. A tribute to Black dandy culture, to style, to history. Lots of tailored suits, shiny fabrics, and pure elegance. An ode to Black craftsmanship and creativity. And what made it extra special this year: the guests really understood the theme.

Dandy style?

The dandy style was a fashion and lifestyle movement that emerged in the 18th and 19th centuries, primarily in England and France. Think of men who were ultra-stylish, well-groomed, and elegantly dressed, with an almost obsessive attention to detail. They used their clothing to stand out from the crowd and as a form of self-expression – often with a touch of irony or exaggeration. Anne Hathaway paid a beautiful tribute to André Leon Talley with her look, an icon of the dandy style. Together with designer Carolina Herrera, she drew inspiration from André’s iconic white blouses and his double-breasted suits.

The hosts of Met Gala 2025

This year we had as hosts: Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and of course Anna Wintour herself. And no, they did not disappoint me for a second. Colman shone in Valentino, Lewis wore a stylish Wales Bonner, A$AP remained A$AP, Pharrell wore none other than Pharrell, and Anna—classic in Chanel.

Our favorites gathered together

The red carpet of Met Gala 2025 was blue, with beautiful flowers along the sides. And who paraded over it? Everything related to tailoring. We saw Jenna Ortega in a metallic dress that looked like a bunch of measuring tapes, and Zendaya in a stunning white suit with a typical dandy hat – referencing Bianca Jagger's iconic wedding suit that she wore when she married Mick Jagger in 1971. I have gathered all my personal favorites here for you:

Hairstyles

Everyone goes all out with clothing and accessories, but some really make a statement with their hair as well. Nicole Kidman opted for a short hairstyle this year, while Pamela Anderson appeared with bangs (and I mean: a very short fringe). The bangs were definitely the trend of the evening, as Zoë Saldaña also chose a short fringe. Even stylist Law Roach – known for Zendaya among others – appeared with a new look: platinum blonde and a lot shorter than we are used to seeing from him.

Inside The Met

Also this year, people secretly brought their phones inside (which is actually not allowed), and that resulted in some delightful images. I quickly saw that Megan Thee Stallion seemed to have a great time with Doechii, and that two girls tried to sneak in.

The afterparties: who unpacked after the gala?

After the ball, there is always an afterparty. As I write this, the first paparazzi photos of the night are coming in. And honestly? Sometimes the looks are even better than those at the ball itself.
