6 bizarre anti-aging treatments that celebs swear by

By
If you've been on the internet in the past few days, you've probably seen it: the new look of Jim Carrey. According to some, he deviates so much from his old self that there was even speculation online about a clone. More likely it's just filler here and there. Celebs are simply in the spotlight 24/7. From red carpets to paparazzi shots in the supermarket: those photographers know your so-called bad side better than you do. We've seen enough filler fails over the years, but what bizarre treatments do the one percent undergo to look eternally young?

Vampire facial

Sounds exciting and it looks that way too. The vampire facial makes it seem like you just came off the set of a horror movie: faces completely covered in blood. Blood is drawn from the arms of celebrities, which is then reintroduced into their face via microneedling (a type of acupuncture technique). Of course, with numbing cream. Beauty is pain, but everyone has a limit.

According to fans of the treatment wrinkles become less visible and scars, stretch marks, and bags under the eyes fade. The bloodbath is said to make filler unnecessary by plumping parts of your face. This treatment was made world-famous by Kim Kardashian, but countless names have already gone under the needle for nearly 900 euros.

SPF 100+

We're familiar with factor 50, 30, and 15. But some burn just by looking at the sun the wrong way. Nicole Kidman has the UV index completely under control with factor 100+. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times she mentioned that skin cancer is a major concern for her, partly due to her Irish-English heritage.

Another secret of Kidman is sheer zinc 50+. This is waterproof and therefore perfect for surfing and swimming.

Bee sting facial

Relaxing and a facial usually go hand in hand. But not with Gwyneth Paltrow. She is very positive about the bee sting facial, also known as apitherapy. During this treatment, you are actually stung by bees in the face.

The idea is that bee venom stimulates the skin and boosts collagen production. And according to Paltrow it's an ancient method that works.

Leech therapy

Long before she shone in the body positivity film The Substance, Demi Moore openly spoke about leech therapy. Yes, real bloodsuckers. During the treatment, they are placed all over the skin, including the navel.

The parasites are said to cleanse the blood and have anti-inflammatory benefits.

Olive oil mask

It's in your kitchen and is the secret behind Julia Roberts' glow. Did you think of olive oil? Probably not. Roberts mixes a few drops of extra virgin olive oil with warm water, applies it as a mask, and lets it sit for 30 minutes.

Additionally, she applies pure olive oil to her feet, puts on socks, and lets it soak in overnight. All this for the youthful glow of our dreams.

Salmon sperm facial

And just when you thought you had heard everything about animal quartets and facials, you heard about salmon sperm treatment. Yes. How is it all conceived?

But well, various members of the Kardashian family and Jennifer Aniston have had it done. The treatment uses salmon DNA processed in serums or injections. The goal is to stimulate skin repair, improve elasticity, reduce fine lines, and create that intense glow.

Jennifer Aniston said on The Morning Show that she had the treatment done without asking too many questions, but critically asked Jimmy Kimmel: “How do they actually get that salmon sperm?”

When it comes to anti-aging (and other matters), Hollywood is not afraid to experiment. From bee stings to leeches to salmon sperm: there is always someone trying to outdo the other. For now, I'll stick to a thick layer of SPF every morning.
