The cheapest place to fly this summer

Are you already dreaming about the summer vacation? Then make it two. Personally, I'm already thinking about all the sunny terraces, amazing sights, and delicious meals that I will experience again in August. But to be completely honest... As a student, I don't have the budget to plan three trips. Flying? It's usually way too expensive, even though it's only January. Do you want to go to that Eurosummer like I do? Then I have good news. Skyscanner has a brand new tool designed to plan the cheapest vacation. You enter a date and you see the cheapest spots. Isn't that great? Say goodbye to that NS travel planner, this is much more fun. If you don't feel like figuring everything out, we've already lined up the most affordable destinations for you.
Oh, and a little disclaimer: these are not the prices at this moment. That would be unfair. To make it as thought-out as possible, we look at the return prices for August. Otherwise, it would be a shame if you want to book your vacation for the summer now and it suddenly costs double, right? Flying earlier? Then you'll save even more.
10. Reykjavik (Iceland)
At the bottom of the list, we have this city with its rugged landscapes and colorful streets: Reykjavik. As we speak, the cheapest flight to this city is €315. Okay, okay. This isn't very cheap, but honestly? Skip one month of coffee and snacks outside, and before you know it, you've saved this amount.
Why you absolutely must go to this city? Well, for one of the most popular attractions in all of Iceland: the Blue Lagoon, for example. You know, that geothermal bath located in an old lava field that looks like it came straight out of Lord of the Rings. The almost white seawater is very cool, but be careful with your hair when you step in. Those two really don't go together. Would you rather go to a regular spa? There are plenty of those here. Eat the best salmon you've ever had in a restaurant, visit a quirky pub, and see the most beautiful waterfalls and geysers, and stroll through the city with all sorts of trendy Scandinavian coffee shops. You could almost say: what can't you do here?
@findingfiona just don’t think about what else is in the water…. 😂 this is what it's like to get a Blue Lagoon face mask at Blue Lagoon Iceland. Did you know there’s blue lagoon skincare too that you can take home?! 👙@Revolve #iceland #bluelagoon #traveltiktok #bluelagooniceland #beauty #travel
9. Athens (Greece)
In second to last place, we have Athens. Now, it's not like you have to sell a kidney to fly here, but it's not really very cheap either. This flight will cost you from Amsterdam €215. Whether mid-summer is a good choice, with those intense temperatures, is perhaps the question – but that's not what we're talking about. You want to see a lot of cool things, and Athens is definitely a good destination for that. But we already knew that.
Whether you prefer to stroll past souvenir shops all day and end every evening with a portion of gyros and tzatziki, or prefer to visit various temples and museums: there is so much to experience here. Marvel at the Acropolis, walk through history in the Ancient Agora, and definitely take a look at the National Archaeological Museum. So you can soak up plenty of culture, but the trendy spots like Monastiraki and the Plaka district are also great to visit.

8. Lisbon (Portugal)
Under Athens is Lisbon, with a one euro difference. Well, you get to Lisbon faster than traveling to Texel, so for that €214 I totally understand that you'd rather spend the summer in warm Portugal. Who wouldn't want to walk in the sun while eating a fresh Pastel de Nata? Exactly.
Just browsing around the largest ZARA in the world, after which you eat the best meat at O Tachadas. This traditional butcher chops the meat into pieces right in front of you before it goes on the grill. Want to see the National Theatre D. Maria II? I wouldn't say no to that. I want to drink delicious sangria and dance in my summer dress on the street because yes, that music coming from all the bars and clubs can be heard everywhere.

7. Seville (Andalusia)
The land of tapas is also really not expensive. The cheapest trip to Seville costs no more than a Coach bag. For €206 you can stay here for a few days. And no, you really don't want the cheaper flights with a layover. Then you'll be sitting at Madrid airport at 7 AM wondering when you're going to depart. That €40 you save is really not worth it.
I'm craving a paella and winding, narrow streets where you can wander. If Seville is known for anything, it's those vibrant squares with orange trees, dancing people, and of course attractions like the Alcázar palace. Do you want to experience the real Seville? Then you really have to go to a flamenco show. How could you not do this in the birthplace of Spanish dance? That's really a must.

6. Split (Croatia)
Do you live closer to Rotterdam? Then you might as well travel a bit further to Amsterdam, because that saves you almost €60. From our capital, you can be in Split in no time. Is that expensive? Well, not really. With Easyjet, you can do it for €199. Here you are just a short flight of 4 hours away from palm trees, 27 degrees, and beautiful places that you absolutely want to see.
Think of a historic old town with a large palace (which is basically a city within a city, seriously) and locations where Game of Thrones was filmed. Do you remember Mereen? Where Daenerys stayed? You can just walk there. If ancient history is your thing but you find Athens too expensive, then this is a good second option. Here, as a history buff, you can really go wild. Oh, and yes: you can definitely go out here too. You even have boat trips where you can party.

5. Istanbul (Turkey)
For almost the same price and a short stopover on the way back in Copenhagen, you can fly back and forth from Amsterdam to Istanbul for €198 . And honestly? I wouldn't say no to a Turkish metropolis. This trendy city is a real mix of cultures due to its position between Europe and Asia. With all the old buildings, it feels a bit like walking in a large museum, where you can also go out and visit the coolest hotspots.
Will you choose the Hagia Sophia mosque, the Egyptian Bazaar, or the Blue Mosque? Well, no matter which place you choose: there is always something beautiful to see here. This chaotic city is really so busy with taxis on every corner of the street and people trying to get from A to B. If you are willing to step into a neon world full of spicy scents and delicious food, then Istanbul is for you.
@takemyhearteverywhere Istanbul, a city of timeless beauty, rich history, and vibrant culture 🇹🇷✨ #TikTokTravel #Istanbul #Turkey #traveltiktok
4. Marrakesh (Morocco)
Is flying to Morocco not very expensive? No, not at all. It's even cheaper than a dinner for two at Yamazato. Instead of having one evening at this Japanese Michelin-star restaurant, you can now fly round trip to Marrakesh for €193. That's quite a different deal. In this city, you dive into the world of vegetarian food, houses so beautiful that you almost think they are porcelain, and bright colors.
Let yourself be swept away by all the chaos in the bustling Djemaa El Fna square, smell all the souks with the tastiest spices, let your hands glide through textiles that you want to have at home – really: go to the locals. Want to see more? Then there are plenty of palaces with beautiful gardens, such as the Bahia Palace, with the botanical Majorelle Garden. This is no small garden, you know. Here you will see the most extraordinary exotic plants and Moroccan architectural style.

3. Edinburgh (United Kingdom)
Are you up for a walk in the sun through Victoria Street? Then I can happily tell you that you don't need to take out a loan for that. For €176 , Easyjet will fly you to these Scots and back. It doesn't have to be that far away. Edinburgh is just around the corner.
Of course, this city is fantastic in the fall, but you can also enjoy it here in the summer. Those dark alleys and medieval buildings still have their charm, believe me. Just walk past New College or stroll through history at Edinburgh Castle, it will change your life. Visit pubs on the Royal Mile where you can try Scottish whiskey and haggis. Or make a potion in the Magic Potions Tavern that you can also drink. What could be more magical than that?
2. Valencia (Spain)
If Sevilla isn't really your thing, then why not go to Valencia? You can get there cheaper for €173. That €33 you can spend on a feast – that's a nice bonus, right? Such a historic center with a high concentration of restaurants and shops? Exactly.
Getting lost in the thousand-year-old Barrio del Carmen sounds like the dream I need right now. Just close your eyes and feel the walls where merchants used to walk by with their donkeys. And visiting a church that is just as beautiful as the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City, aka the San Nicolás de Bari y San Pedro Mártir church, you can't forget that. Watch the sunset on a boat trip and then enjoy cocktails at the chiringuitos (or beach bars). Visit the Palace of the Marquis of Don Aguas and definitely stop by La Mas bonita for drinks and snacks.

1. Faro (Portugal)
And the absolute, absolute, absolute cheapest? That's Faro. The Algarve has never been so cheap, because this return flight? It only costs you €146. That's hardly any money, right? I must admit that this is already the amount I spend at a ZARA sale, so I'm not surprised. For that money, I will go surfing and diving off cliffs, watch me.
As you can guess, you can experience a lot of outdoor adventures here. Hiking in the most beautiful hiking locations, surfing on crystal blue water, and enjoying the sun. That Benagil cave I really want to see, so if I want to go somewhere on this list, I choose Faro. Swimming at hidden waterfalls? I want that. Good food? You want that too. Seeing beautiful things? We all want that.
@travelcheapwithchloe Faro Portugal = Beautiful 🌞🌸🤍 #faro #portugal #travel #europetravel #fyp #traveltiktok #traveltok
So. You were looking for some cheap flights? Then you don't need to look any further. Just add these destinations to your wishlist. Oh: and book quickly, then. Because the later you book... The more it will cost you.
