Why we all need a detox shampoo

There are a lot of different shampoos in my bathroom: one for hydration, one for volume, one for shine, you know how it is. But a shampoo that actually deeply cleans my hair and removes greasiness and all sorts of other dirt? I didn't have that yet.
Yes, in the form of a scalp scrub, like those from Christophe Robin or Philip B (both very nice), but the focus there is mainly on your scalp and that is of course also so important.
Not every shampoo cleans your hair equally thoroughly. Many caring ingredients, such as those in moisturizing shampoos, intentionally leave a caring layer on the hair. That's nice for dry or damaged hair, but it can also weigh the hair down. And exactly that is increasingly being seen on packaging these days: the product is formulated in such a way that the hair remains cared for, without becoming heavy or limp, instead of that airy hair with volume that we are actually looking for.
My friend Laura, with the most beautiful hair, mentioned in one of her TikTok videos that she washes her hair once a week with a detox shampoo, to really get the hair completely clean, like a kind of reset. So that's the kind of shampoo I need. But what is a detox shampoo actually?
A detox shampoo is basically a shampoo that cleans your hair and scalp deeper than a regular shampoo. While most shampoos mainly focus on care, a detox shampoo is specifically made to remove everything that has built up over time. Think of sebum, residues of styling products, dry shampoo, silicones, but also pollution from the outside and even minerals from tap water. Yes, really.
Think of it as a reset for your hair. Not a daily step, but a moment when you really start over. After such a wash, your hair often feels immediately lighter, fresher, and cleaner, as if all the layers that have built up unnoticed have disappeared. You can notice that not only by how your hair feels, but also by how it falls and how it reacts after blow-drying or styling.
A detox shampoo is therefore not meant to be used every day. Precisely because it cleans so thoroughly, you use it occasionally, for example once a week or every few weeks. After that, your hair is again a sort of blank canvas, allowing caring products and styling to work even better.
