The American country singer Ella Langley stormed the charts with her hit ‘Choosin’ Texas’. Last week she made history when the song spent its 23rd week at number 1 on the American Billboard Hot 100 chart, and she has now entered her 24th week at number 1. She broke the record of Mariah Carey, who held the number 1 spot for 22 weeks with “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” But who is Ella Langley, and how did she land such a big hit?
Her country roots in Alabama
Ella Langley was born and raised in Hope Hull, Alabama, and her youth was as country as it gets. She came from a Southern Baptist family and sang from a young age in church and at family gatherings. At eighteen, she started performing in bars and studied forestry at Auburn University, but in 2019 she decided to quit and move to Nashville to fully focus on her music career.

Ella’s first big hit
In 2024, Ella broke through with her song ‘You Look Like You Love Me’, a duet with country singer Riley Green. It was impossible to miss on social media, “Excuuuse me, you look like you love me,” was heard everywhere. The song put her on the map in the world of country music for the first time and reached number 1 on the American country charts.
Why Choosin’ Texas became so big
It may seem like a fairly new hit, but ‘Choosin’ Texas’ was released back in October 2025. She wrote the song together with Miranda Lambert, a country star who is very big in America. The song really sounds like old country music but also has a catchy chorus. She tells a story about a love triangle in which the boy ultimately chooses the girl from Texas. Many dance videos and memes featuring the song appeared on TikTok, which greatly contributed to the song's success. ‘Choosin’ Texas’ grew from a country hit to a globally recognized song that became known far beyond the country audience.
Ella Langley’s style transformation
Not only did her music career undergo a transformation, but Ella’s look also changed when she decided to cut bangs, which have now become her signature. Where she previously opted for simple outfits, she now chooses more glamorous Americana-inspired looks. The chemistry during live performances of Ella Langley and Riley Green, with whom she sang ‘You Look Like You Love Me’ at many festivals, sparked dating rumors. However, the two made it clear in 2024 that they are just good friends.
Last year, Ella briefly dated John Sansone, known from Farmer Wants A Wife, the American version of Farmer Seeks Wife. He confirmed earlier this year that the two had dated for a few months.
Ella seems to have found love again. At the end of September, it was announced that she is in a relationship with country singer Tucker Wetmore. The two had been spotted together for some time, but during the Nashville Songwriter Awards last month, they left the event together through a side entrance. Shortly after, it was confirmed that the two are indeed dating.
