This is the sexiest series right now

If you are not yet aware of this series, then you have really missed something in pop culture. The entire internet can't stop talking about the latest steamy hit: Heated Rivalry. Although it has been out for a while, people online remain fans of the queer romance. What makes it so good? The chemistry and of course the forbidden love. The tension is intense and the yearning? (You know, the desire for a person.) It's really insane. Are you ready to be completely pulled into the world of ice hockey? Then you need to read on, because this is why pop culture is crazy about this television adaptation.

What Heated Rivalry is about

Does the story of a queer ice hockey love story sound familiar to you? Then that's not so strange, because this series is based on the popular Game Changers-books by Rachel Reid. And specifically the Heated Rivalry-book, of course. We follow the Russian Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie) and the Canadian Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams). These two star players fall madly in love with each other when their paths cross. There is just one problem. Or rather, two. Besides the fact that they are arch-rivals on the ice, a homosexual relationship is really taboo in the sports world. They find themselves in a game of lies and secret meetings that are so passionate that you almost want to pause the series to catch your breath.

Steamy forbidden love? We are sat

Although this is a queer story, it's not just people from the LGBTQ+ community who are fans of Heated Rivalry. Everyone seems obsessed with Ilya and Shane. A small search on TikTok already leads you into a hole full of fan edits of the guys. And the many sex scenes of course, because that's another reason everyone is so into this series. We can't deny that it's fun to see handsome men, and here you see plenty of them. The sex – and especially the lust for each other – is what makes this series so good. It's not just about the act, but about really feeling each other. Seeing and holding each other. The chemistry between the actors is so strong that it really feels like you're watching two in-love men. They want to be together at all costs, even if it jeopardizes their career or life. And yes... many people love to see that.

Are you not such a fan of ice hockey, but do you want to see romance? Then you're in luck, because the sport is not central. It's really about the slow-burn love between the two characters.

The series is also popular in the Netherlands with... Rob Jetten's boyfriend

Yes, you heard that right. Rob Jetten's boyfriend – you know, that hockey player Nicolás Keenan – really identifies with the series. At the beginning of their relationship, he even wanted Rob not to come to his games, to keep the relationship a secret. “A secret love that takes place within four walls. I've experienced that before,” he wrote on Instagram. “On the street, I walked past him and acted like he was a stranger.” He is really not proud of that now, but the struggle is definitely recognizable. So we actually have our own Dutch Ilya and Shane.

Where and when can we watch Heated Rivalry?

Okay, prepare yourself. I have good and bad news... You can't watch the series in the Netherlands. Or, actually; not yet. It will take you two more weeks of sleep, but then you can finally enjoy these lovers. From January 23, Heated Rivalry will be available to stream on HBO.

Do you have absolutely no patience and a VPN at your disposal? Then you can start preparing the popcorn. In America and Australia, you can already stream this show. Then that VPN you once subscribed to will come in handy, perfect, right? Or it might cost you a trial period now, because a good VPN is not free. Are you more into books and don't feel like signing up for such a subscription? Then you can also read the story. You can have that in no time.

I know what I'm going to do this week, to be honest. Sign up for a VPN, because I really can't miss this.
