Who is Kelly Wearstler and what is her collection with H&M HOME?

By

Since we discovered that Kelly Wearstler designed Cameron Diaz's house, she has been on our radar. Not only because we would love to wander through that house for a day, but especially because everything Wearstler touches turns into an interior that makes you want to delete your entire Pinterest board spontaneously. Fortunately, her latest project is somewhat more accessible than a home of Cameron Diaz, as the interior designer has created a fantastic collection in collaboration with H&M HOME. And believe us: for some of these items, we would undoubtedly sell a part of our bag collection. But how did this collaboration come about and who is Kelly Wearstler anyway?

What to expect from the Kelly Wearstler x H&M HOME Collection

That Kelly Wearstler and H&M HOME would design a collection together was announced in April during Milan Design Week. There, they presented the first part of the collaboration in the historic Palazzo Acerbi. It was not only the first time Wearstler was seen during the famous design week, but also the debut of H&M HOME. Quite a special moment, then. In the end, Kelly and H&M HOME created a collection of 29 interior items. Think of furniture in loose parts, striking lamps, and decorative objects that look like you found them in an expensive design store. The collection was made using various materials, including wood, metal, ceramics, marble, and textiles.

Because Kelly didn't want to design furniture that can only be used in one way, almost all furniture comes in different parts. You can place them separately, connect them, and combine them again and again. This way, you can adapt each piece of furniture to your space and wishes. This is handy when you suddenly decide at midnight in a few months that your living room needs to look completely different again. Oh, and as if that weren't enough, she also has plenty of nice clothing in the collection.

The collection is according to the designer about the combination of beauty, form, and function. You can see this reflected in the soft curves, unique materials, and furniture that almost resemble works of art. Yet the pieces are intended for everyday life and not just to be looked at from a safe distance.

Who is Kelly Wearstler anyway?

Kelly Wearstler is an American interior designer known for her bold and layered interiors. Instead of faithfully implementing one living style from start to finish, she combines different eras, colors, patterns, materials, and artworks. The result is often striking, a bit theatrical, and the exact opposite of a living room where everything is beige.

Wearstler established her own design studio in the 1990s and made a name for herself with her designs for luxury hotels. She was responsible for the interiors of various Viceroy and Proper hotels. Additionally, she designed homes for well-known names like Cameron Diaz and Gwen Stefani. Cameron Diaz's apartment in Manhattan received, thanks to Wearstler, among other things, gold details, striking patterns, vintage furniture, and various types of marble. In other words: no standard celebrity home with three white sofas and a stray scented candle.

By now, Wearstler not only designs complete interiors but also furniture, lighting, accessories, and art objects. Her style has made her one of the most well-known interior designers in the world. She is on the AD100 list of Architectural Digest, has published several interior books, and collaborates with major design brands. And now, thanks to H&M HOME, we can also bring a bit of her style into our homes without first having to earn a Hollywood salary.
