This Mango jacket is the perfect Barbour dupe for under €100

By

If you want to go for a timeless look this autumn, a Barbour jacket should definitely not be missing. The classic British countrywear style is timeless, and since we live in a similar climate in the Netherlands, this style from our western neighbors is perfect. I recently wrote about the cutest rain boots for this season, but the popular Barbour jacket should also not be missing in your autumn wardrobe. Are you not ready to invest heavily in the original? Fortunately, there are also affordable alternatives available, like this jacket from Mango.

Why is the Barbour jacket so popular?

The Barbour jacket may be seen everywhere on social media and Pinterest now, but I wouldn't call it a comeback. The jackets have a classic look that never really goes out of style. That effortless outdoor look has made the Barbour beloved by British celebrities for years: from Princess Diana, who wore it frequently, and Princess Kate, who is still regularly spotted in it, to fashion it-girls like Alexa Chung and Sienna Miller.

The Mango jacket that looks exactly like a Barbour

The price of a Barbour jacket averages between €345–€370, but the alternative from Mango is €89.99. Both have the characteristic corduroy collar, checked lining, and large pockets. It is available in two colors, black and dark beige. It is not an exact copy: while Barbour jackets are made entirely of cotton and waxed, the one from Mango has a cotton blend and a waxed effect, but it does provide the same look.

How do you style the jacket?

One of the most amazing things about these style jackets is that you can combine them with practically anything. For a walk, you can wear a sweater and leggings and rain boots with it, but you can also wear it in the city with jeans and ballet flats. Because the jacket is a bit oversized, you can wear both tight and your thickest sweaters underneath. Colors that go well with the beige variant are white or cream, green, chocolate brown, cognac, gray, and navy or denim blue. With black, the color combinations are of course endless.

What makes this model so suitable for autumn is that it is a good transitional jacket. The past few weeks it was sometimes too warm for a jacket during the day, but in the evenings it was freezing cold. Perfect for days when a thick winter coat is still too warm, but you can't go outside without a jacket. And with the different outfits you can put together with it, the question is rather: what doesn't it go with?
