In the category of self-deprecation: Miranda Priestly really pokes fun at herself

‘’That lumpy sweater’’
It was perhaps the least subtle wink ever. There sat Meryl, at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, in a cobalt blue sweater that suspiciously resembled ‘’that lumpy sweater’’ from the movie. You can already hear her saying: ‘’Oh, so you think that this has nothing to do with you?’’ In that tone that can convey both pleasure and disdain. What follows is, of course, Andrea’s outfit being expertly torn apart. ‘’That sweater is not just blue, it’s not turquoise, it’s not lapis… it’s actually cerulean.” Then RUNWAY’s editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly, explains how that color slowly seeped into the sale racks via Oscar de la Renta and Yves Saint Laurent, where her new assistant most likely found it. And then comes the kicker: “You’re wearing a sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room.” With this magnificent monologue, she tells how you think you’re making your own choice, while it has already been made for you. Andrea (and the viewer) feels that to the core.
#CerulianBlue
Streep is not the only one who has never missed cobalt blue. Anne Hathaway wore the sweater too, but in the slightly fresher variant. The film is also celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year. The actress kicked off the press moments in a white hoodie with the blue color prominently displayed on the back. Captured by stylist Ashley Afriyie, who added: “#CeruleanBlue has entered the chat.”
On May 1, it’s finally happening: The Devil Wears Prada 2. And whether the actresses show up in those sweaters again or not: we are ready for it. Because as Miranda Priestly herself said: “Don’t be ridiculous, everybody wants this.”
