This new Disney+ series is perfect if you want to escape from your own workday

By

There are those series that you don't necessarily start because you're in the mood for heavy life lessons, but because you just want to disappear into attractive people, sharp one-liners, New York-apartments that no one can afford and careers that are just a bit more dramatic than your own Monday morning.

The new comedy by Mindy Kaling revolves around five twenty-somethings in Manhattan who are busy chasing success. And love. And friendship. And themselves. Just in that order, because yes: deadlines first, existential crises later.

The series follows a group of young professionals struggling through their first real adult years. Ambition, office politics, complicated crushes, way too expensive drinks, and that delightful moment when you realize that no one actually knows what they're doing. Not even the people with good shoes and an impressive job title.

With Ella Hunt, Avantika, Will Angus, Jack Martin, Nicholas Duvernay and Jay Ellis in the cast makes the series feel like a fresh mix of workplace comedy and coming-of-age, but then for the phase after your studies: when your schedule is full, your inbox is exploding, and you're still googling how to have an adult life.

What makes Not Suitable for Work enjoyable is that it doesn't try to be too cool. It's messy, fast, relatable, and exactly the kind of series where after one episode you think: alright, just one more then. Especially if you like Mindy Kaling's earlier work, like Never Have I Ever and The Sex Lives of College Girls, you're in for a treat.

Is it realistic? Mwah. Is it enjoyable? Absolutely. And sometimes that's exactly what you need.
